Overview

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Medical Assistant to join our healthcare team at our Extended Hours Clinic. This position is essential in supporting patient care by performing clinical and administrative tasks, ensuring efficient operations, and maintaining a patient-centered environment. The ideal candidate will be organized, proactive, and passionate about providing quality healthcare to diverse patient populations.

Schedule

Two-week rotating schedule:

  • Week 1: Three 12-hour weekday shifts (36 hours)
  • Week 2: Two 12-hour weekday shifts plus 6 hours Saturday and 6 hours Sunday (36 hours) Rotation repeats every two weeks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Exceptional Customer Service
  • Communicate and work effectively with people of varying backgrounds, healthcare professionals, and support staff at all levels.
  • Maintain respect and regard for the dignity of all patients and their families/caregivers.
  • EHR Inbox Management: Process inbox messages in a timely manner.
  • Phone Messages and Telephone Encounters: Return messages and relay pertinent information to patients or other entities as needed.
  • Visit Preparation: Prepare patients for medical procedures and assist with procedures.
  • Clean and sanitize rooms after each patient.
  • Patient Care within Scope of Practice: Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients health and psychosocial needs and develop collaborative treatment plans with patients and their family or caregivers and the healthcare team.
  • Record all interventions, phone, email, in-person, in patient charts and compile and produce reports on service delivery and outcomes.
  • Work with the RN Care Team Director and Clinical Operations Director to obtain data for outcome measurement reporting.
  • Report patient progress in patient files and to medical staff.
  • Perform basic laboratory and point-of-care testing.
  • Maintain patient medical records and work with providers to send medication refills to the appropriate pharmacy.
  • Provide care to patients from newborns to geriatrics, including womens health, OB, immunizations, and more.
  • Communicate relevant information to various departments to maintain continuity of care.
  • Stay up to date with immunization changes.
  • Obtain vital signs, including manual blood pressure, and perform screenings/measurements.
  • Provide patient education as needed.

Personal Specifications

  • Knowledge and Experience: Have a current Medical Assistant Certification or must be willing to obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • High level of problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent computer skills required for internal communications.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

Compensation

$15.00 - $21.00 per hour

The Good Shepherd Community Clinic Inc. has grown from the original Tuesday night volunteer clinic in a small rental house, only treating 85 patients, to a full-time comprehensive Community Health Center caring for more than 9,600 medical and dental patients.
