Summary:
Responsible for owning the full P&L and cash flow for a $100M+ region of six to nine HVAC, plumbing, and electrical branches, including revenue, gross margin, labor, materials, SG&A, EBITDA, and the cash behind them. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, this role leads the Branch General Managers who run each location and is accountable, branch by branch, for the results that HomeTown Services’ platform standards for sales, operations, pricing, and inventory are built to produce. The candidate must find problems before anyone asks, show up with the fix, and hold the standard with every General Manager, including founders and long-tenured leaders who built these businesses.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
Financial Results
- Own regional and branch P&L results, including revenue, gross margin, labor, materials, SG&A, and EBITDA against budget, and move resources across branches to protect the region.
- Own cash flow in every branch, including accounts receivable, aging, collections, and billing speed, working AR weekly rather than at quarter-end.
- Drive organic growth in every branch through memberships, technician-generated leads, unsold-estimate follow-up, and new service lines.
- Make and deliver quarterly and full-year forecast commitments.
Operational Drivers
- Manage labor and productivity, including hours, overtime, headcount, and technician productivity, weekly and in season.
- Maintain materials and inventory controls, including job costing, truck stock, and warehouse controls.
- Move sales-cycle execution (close rate, options presented, and average ticket) toward top quartile in every branch.
- Ensure pricebook and discount standards are followed every time.
- Improve customer experience, including booking speed, maintenance renewals, online reputation, and customer sentiment.
Leadership and Talent Development
- Hire, develop, evaluate, and, when needed, replace General Managers, maintaining a strong GM in every seat and a ready successor for every branch.
- Teach GMs to diagnose their own business: which number is off, why, and what they are changing this week.
- Build teams that stay, and branches that run safely and in compliance.
- Build one team across the region’s branches and the home office.
Operating Cadence
- Daily: Review labor, hours, materials, and open customer issues, catching problems the same day rather than at month-end.
- Weekly: Review branch scorecards with each GM, sign off on labor before payroll, review AR aging and collections, and provide a written regional update to the COO.
- Monthly: Complete a P&L review for every branch with Finance, with a recovery plan for every miss.
- Quarterly: Lead the regional business review and talent and succession review, and update the full-year forecast.
Standards, Growth, and Integration
- Implement HomeTown Services operating standards in every branch and measure adoption weekly.
- Lead branch turnarounds and regional growth initiatives.
- Integrate acquired businesses onto company systems and standards, and help founder-led teams make the transition.
- Partner with platform leaders in sales, operations, pricing, finance, marketing, and HR.
- Present regional performance to executive leadership and the board.
Work Environment
- Reports to the Chief Operating Officer and leads six to nine Branch General Managers.
- Based in-region (Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Florida, or Georgia).
- Majority of the week spent in the field (typically Tuesday through Thursday in branches), including GM working sessions, ride-alongs, and call center and warehouse time, with every branch visited on a set rotation.
- Requires overnight and air travel.
Requirements:
- Three or more years owning, not supporting, a multi-site P&L of $75M or more, or a large multi-unit business on a clear path to that scale.
- Experience leading five or more site or branch leaders at once, with results that held after moving on.
- Demonstrated record of building leaders, including promoting high performers and moving out underperformers.
- Strong operator’s financial fluency: able to read a P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow statement and act on margin, labor, and receivables, not just revenue.
- Turnaround experience, having taken an underperforming site or region back to plan with measurable before-and-after results.
- Must live in-region and be willing to spend most of the week in branches.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business or a related field preferred; equivalent experience valued equally.
- Regional or multi-brand leadership at a PE-backed residential HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or home services platform is strongly preferred.
- Experience integrating acquisitions and transitioning founder-led businesses is strongly preferred.
- ServiceTitan or similar field-service platform experience, and working knowledge of the residential sales cycle (options, memberships, and financing), is strongly preferred.
- Multi-unit service leadership in automotive service, pest control, restoration, exterior services, or franchise operations is a plus.
