Position Overview
A well-established global machine tool manufacturer is seeking an experienced Regional Sales Manager to drive sales growth throughout Michigan and Ohio.
This is a highly autonomous, direct-sales position focused on developing relationships with manufacturers, machine shops, and other metalworking organizations throughout the territory. The Regional Sales Manager will be responsible for identifying opportunities, developing new accounts, expanding existing customer relationships, and managing the complete capital equipment sales process.
The primary focus will be selling a proven portfolio of CNC turning centers, CNC lathes, vertical machining centers, and milling machines, with additional opportunities involving more advanced machining and automation solutions.
We are specifically looking for someone who already knows the Michigan and/or Ohio machine tool market and can bring an established network of relationships and industry contacts to the position.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a territory sales strategy for Michigan and Ohio
- Sell CNC machine tools directly to end-user manufacturing customers
- Prospect and develop new business within machine shops, contract manufacturers, OEMs, automotive suppliers, and other metalworking organizations
- Leverage an existing book of business and industry relationships to accelerate territory development
- Identify capital equipment opportunities through regular customer visits, prospecting, referrals, networking, and industry relationships
- Manage the entire sales cycle from initial contact and needs assessment through machine selection, proposal, negotiation, and closing
- Understand customer machining applications, production requirements, tolerances, cycle-time objectives, and equipment needs
- Recommend machine solutions based on the customer's application and manufacturing objectives
- Conduct machine presentations and coordinate demonstrations, applications support, and technical resources as needed
- Develop relationships with owners, presidents, plant managers, manufacturing leaders, engineering teams, and other capital equipment decision-makers
- Maintain an active pipeline of short- and long-term machine tool opportunities
- Provide accurate sales forecasts and territory activity reporting
- Maintain strong relationships after the sale to generate repeat business, referrals, and future equipment opportunities
- Monitor competitive activity and maintain a strong understanding of the regional machine tool marketplace
- Represent the organization professionally at customer facilities, industry events, trade shows, and other networking opportunities
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Proven machine tool sales experience strongly preferred
- Demonstrated success selling CNC machines or comparable capital equipment directly to manufacturers
- Established book of business, customer relationships, and industry contacts within Michigan and/or Ohio
- Strong understanding of CNC machining, turning, milling, and metalworking applications
- Experience selling to job shops, contract manufacturers, OEMs, and production manufacturing environments
- Comfortable communicating with both technical and executive-level decision-makers
- Proven ability to prospect, develop new accounts, and close capital equipment opportunities
- Strong territory management and pipeline development skills
- Self-motivated and capable of operating successfully with a high degree of autonomy
- Consultative sales approach with the ability to understand a customer's manufacturing challenge and recommend the appropriate equipment solution
- Strong relationship-building, presentation, negotiation, and closing skills
- Willingness to travel regularly throughout Michigan and Ohio
