As a Safety Manager, you will be responsible for leading, developing, and implementing comprehensive health and safety programs while ensuring compliance with company policies, MSHA, OSHA, and applicable federal and state regulations. About the Role 

Responsibilities:

• Leads the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of comprehensive site safety and health programs in alignment with company policies, plant requirements, and MSHA regulations.
• Provides visible safety leadership, coaching, and mentorship to employees, contractors, and site leadership while promoting accountability and a proactive safety culture.
• Conducts and leads safety meetings, audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify hazards, establish corrective actions, and ensure timely follow-through.
• Partners with site and corporate leadership during internal and external audits, regulatory inspections, and compliance reviews while maintaining accurate safety documentation and required records.
• Serves as the primary site resource for injury and incident reporting, investigation, case management, first aid response, and coordination of medical treatment.
• Oversees accurate reporting of incidents and near misses within the Safety Management System (SMS) and manages workers’ compensation claims to support timely and effective resolution.
• Develops, implements, and maintains site-specific emergency response plans, SOPs, and safety programs, including contractor safety management, Hearing Conservation, Pulmonary Function testing, and other applicable programs.
• Leads safety training and education initiatives to ensure employees understand safety expectations, regulatory requirements, and safe work practices.
• Analyzes safety performance metrics, incident trends, and leading indicators to identify opportunities for improvement and develops action plans to address areas of risk.
• Communicates safety performance, trends, and recommendations clearly and effectively to site leadership and corporate/segment safety teams.
• Collaborates with Manufacturing, Logistics, Quality, and other functional leaders to identify and implement practical, sustainable solutions to safety and operational challenges.
• Supports and participates in safety committees, employee engagement initiatives, and safety recognition programs designed to strengthen the site's safety culture.
• Maintains strong working relationships with regulatory agencies, medical providers, contractors, and other external partners as needed.
• Ensures site practices remain aligned with applicable federal, state, and local regulations and company standards.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.

 

 

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field preferred but not required.
• Progressive safety experience in manufacturing, mining, aggregates, construction materials, logistics, or another heavy industrial environment.
• Strong knowledge of safety principles, regulatory compliance, hazard identification, incident investigation, and safety management systems.
• Working knowledge of MSHA, OSHA, DOT, and other applicable federal and state regulations, with the ability to obtain or maintain certifications in First Aid, CPR, DOT, OSHA, MSHA Part 48/46, RCRA, and other applicable areas.
• Experience conducting regulatory audits, inspections, incident investigations, risk assessments, and corrective action follow-up.
• Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively coach employees, influence site leadership, and work collaboratively across multiple departments.
• Ability to analyze safety data and trends and use that information to develop and implement effective safety improvement initiatives.
• Knowledge of basic engineering calculations and compliance requirements supporting permitting, reporting, safety programs, and project objectives.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with strong organizational, documentation, and data entry skills.
• Demonstrates a high level of integrity, accountability, and commitment to safety, regulatory compliance, and company standards.
• Must be reliable and available to report to the designated work site as scheduled.
• Must pass pre-employment screening (physical, background check, and drug screen).
