    Refrigeration Technician - Ammonia (3rd Shift, 11pm-7:30am)

    SUMMARY:

    This position reports to the Facilities Manager and is responsible for maintaining PRCP refrigeration systems. This position can also require some utility maintenance work activities. The position might require on-call and extended hours of work. 

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Maintain, operate, and troubleshoot plant ammonia refrigeration systems in a safe manor.
    • Maintain, operate, and troubleshoot plant boiler, condensate returns and steam distribution systems.
    • Maintain, operate, and troubleshoot plant water treatment system to include nano- and RO filtered systems.
    • Maintain, operate, and troubleshoot plant compressed air systems up to and including 600 psi.
    • Maintain, operate, and troubleshoot plant HVAC, exhaust, and make-up air units.
    • Maintain, operate, and troubleshoot plant fire protection systems.
    • Be an active member of the Hazardous Chemical Response Team.
    • Use computer and associated software to operate plant utility equipment.
    • Support Process Safety Management (PSM) program.
    • Follows standard operating procedures (SOP).
    • Performs preventive maintenance on mechanical systems to include disassembly, cleaning, reassembly, and set-up.
    • Analyzes test results, machine error messages, and information obtained from operators in order to diagnose equipment problems.
    • Examines parts for defects such as breakage and excessive wear.
    • Observes and tests the operation of machinery and equipment in order to diagnose malfunctions, using voltmeters and other testing devices.
    • Studies schematics and manufacturers' manuals to determine correct installation and operation of machinery.
    • Demonstrates equipment functions and features to machine operators.
    • Records parts and materials used.  Order or requisitions new parts and materials as necessary.
    • Records repairs and maintenance performed and inputs into system.
    • Enters codes and instructions to program computer-controlled machinery.
    • Applies a wide variety of methods, procedures & techniques to lay out, install, align, repair, overhaul, & maintain various types of machines encompassing mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems & operation principles.
    • Communicates with management, engineers, mechanics, and equipment operators to advise them if there are any potential mechanical hazards.
    • Ability to work at heights.
    • Brings to work own tools & toolbox.
    • Follow the execution of the maintenance work schedule, as directed by the supervisor. 
    • Examines jobs to be done and determine scope and best way to accomplish the work. Consult with requester, maintenance planner, and/or supervisor when necessary.
    • Obtains one-lines, drawings, instructional manuals and special procedures, as needed, from files or other sources. Make any additional sketches, diagrams, etc., necessary to clarify the intent of the work order.
    • Ensures the safety needs are given a top priority in operations support and work execution. Some examples are Arc Flash/Shock Hazard safety, confined space entry, LOTO, hazardous materials, hand tool safe use, etc.
    • Gains complete knowledge of plant's processes and packaging systems.
    • Attends meetings and supports continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Recommends equipment to be included in preventive maintenance programs.
    • Maintains close contact with assigned maintenance crew, the production supervisor and
    • Keeps the maintenance supervisor and/or manager properly informed on all abnormal or critical situations and seeks advice on matters outside of their knowledge or authority.
    • Protects the integrity and quality of product at all times.
    • Utilizes safety and security practices and procedures following established rules and regulations and maintains a safe, clean, and secure work environment.
    • Knowledge of LOTO procedures.
    • Meets all “Good Manufacturing Practices”.
    • Practice safety requirements established by OSHA and Peace River Citrus Products.
    • Conforms to requirements of PRCP food safety programs.
    • Be available to work extended shifts and days.
    • Promotes the conservation of energy.
    • Build relationships with internal and external key stakeholders to understand their requirements and address requests/issues in a timely fashion.
    • Comply with FDA, USDA, and GMP policies.  Perform all tasks in a safe manner to ensure achievement of Quality, Food Safety, and Cost objectives.  Comply with all standard operating procedures and requirements under PRCP Quality System.
    • Participate in the quality improvement process.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Basic knowledge of computer functions on a keyboard.
    • 5 years industrial plant maintenance experience in Anhydrous Ammonia and HVAC or refrigeration.
    • Maintenance experience in Boilers, air compressors, wastewater treatment, water purification and electrical systems is a plus.
    • Excellent physical condition and coordination.
    • High school diploma.
    • Not mentally or physically impaired from any cause that can adversely affect ability to safely and competently perform required functions.
    • Ability to pass annual physical and respiratory test.
    • Ability to work various shifts as necessary to meet business needs.
    • Ability to take prompt and appropriate response to operating conditions.
    • Experience in PLC, PC controlled equipment preferred.
    • Experience in SAP preferred.
    • Self-motivation with a strong drive for results; must be able to deliver objectives with only minimal supervision.
    • Must possess strong conflict resolution skills.
    • Must possess a demonstrated ability to perform industrial manufacturing maintenance mechanic skills.
