About the Position
The Mississippi Department of Archives and History (MDAH) seeks a Reformatting Specialist to serve in the Archives and Records Division. This position will assist the Reformatting Unit Section Head and Audiovisual Archivist with processing and conserving archival audiovisual collections and digitizing a variety of media formats from MDAH collections. Responsibilities include processing and conserving archival audio, film, and video collections; digitizing rare and fragile historical media using specialized equipment such as the Steenbeck, EZ 16 Film Scanner, Bookeye 4, and Epson flatbed scanners; and describing and cataloging audiovisual materials in the Koha cataloging system and MySQL database. The position will also conduct research related to archival collections and scanning equipment and assist public patrons by fulfilling requests for access to and use of archival materials.
What youll need to be Successful
Demonstrates knowledge of and experience in handling rare, fragile, and historical materials, as well as the ability to work effectively under time constraints while maintaining strong attention to detail and organizational skills. The position also requires the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with section members, MDAH staff, and the public. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong creative problem-solving skills and apply them effectively in a professional setting, along with demonstrated knowledge of Mississippi history.
Preferred Qualifications
Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree and 2-4 years of experience. Hiring agency prefers: Bachelors degree and two to four years of relevant experience. Candidates should have familiarity with Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere Pro, SQL-compliant databases, integrated library systems, and standard office software applications. At least one year of experience using flatbed scanners is preferred. Experience working with a variety of audiovisual formats, including motion picture film, videotape formats, reel-to-reel audiotapes, audiocassettes, and analog sound discs, is also preferred.
