THE POSITION
Douglas County Public Works - Work Crew Division
On-Call Non-Benefited Postition/ Works as Needed/ No Gaurantee of Hours.
Job Summary:
This position provides supervision to adult offenders performing community service as ordered by the court as well as the Parole & Probation department. It trains offenders in forestry and landscaping procedures; maintains order and discipline within work group and completes required recordkeeping. The supervisor collaborates with public and non-profit agencies to develop and manage community work projects.

Any equivalent combination of education and experience, which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities required, will be considered. however, the following is preferred:
Knowledge of: Reasonable knowledge of human behavior; reasonable knowledge of assigning work and leading a work crew; reasonable knowledge of community resources; reasonable knowledge of and ability to participate in program planning, evaluating and implementing programs to meet specific objectives; reasonable knowledge of forestry, landscaping, carpentry and power tool equipment. Skill in: Writing clear and concise correspondence, records, reports and statistical data. Ability to: Communicate effectively in both oral and written form; give practical advice and guidance to adult offenders; lead, direct, maintain order, discipline and safety of adult offender work crew; estimate time and materials and manage time efficiently; relate to a diverse population of people; plan/coordinate work projects with community agencies; apply a practical knowledge of program management to day-to-day activities; safely operate power equipment; work within a team; remain calm and use good judgment during confrontational or high pressure situations; make decisions independently in accordance with established policies and procedures; establish and maintain records, reports and statistical data; courteously meet and deal effectively with other employees, courts, law enforcement agencies, public and non-profit agencies, the community, clients, families and the public.

SCREENING & EVALUATION
While not part of initial applicant screening, the finalist for this position may be required to pass a criminal history backgroundcheck as part of a contingent offer of employment. Conviction of a crime may not necessarily disqualify an individual from employment.
Employment is contingent upon a pre-employment drug screen. Presence of non-prescribed drugs, including marijuana, on drug screen results will result in disqualification pursuant to the Countys drug and alcohol policy. To determine if physically qualified to perform essential functions, employment offer is conditional upon satisfactory results of a post-offer medical and hearing exam conducted at county expense.
