Job Description

The Part-Time Recreation Specialist supports athletic programs and recreation services for the City of League City. This position assists with youth and adult athletics, sporting events, front desk operations, recreation registration, customer service, and Recreation Aide needs.

The Recreation Specialist serves as a front-line resource for residents by providing friendly, knowledgeable, and responsive customer service. This position should maintain a general knowledge of Parks & Recreation programs, facilities, activities, and services in order to assist residents and connect them with appropriate recreation opportunities.

Job Functions

  • Assists with youth and adult athletic programs, leagues, tournaments, and sporting events.
  • Provides front desk customer service and assists residents with Parks & Recreation programs, facilities, schedules, and services.
  • Assists customers with program registration, payments, account questions, and general inquiries.
  • Utilizes recreation management software to process registrations and maintain accurate participant and program information.
  • Maintains a general knowledge of department programs, facilities, events, and recreation opportunities in order to effectively assist residents.
  • Provides information about recreation opportunities and directs residents to appropriate staff or resources when additional assistance is needed.
  • Assists with participant check-in, rosters, schedules, and other athletic program needs.
  • Communicates with participants, parents, coaches, officials, volunteers, and staff as needed.
  • Assists with athletic equipment inventory, distribution, collection, and organization.
  • Provides direction and support to Recreation Aides during athletic programs, sporting events, front desk operations, and other assigned activities.
  • Assists with Recreation Aide orientation and training as directed by supervisory staff.
  • Communicates Recreation Aide staffing, customer service, or operational concerns to the Recreation Supervisor.
  • Monitors program areas to promote participant safety, positive sportsmanship, and compliance with department rules and expectations.
  • Reports facility, field, or maintenance concerns to supervisory staff for coordination with Parks Maintenance.
  • Assists with basic program and event setup and breakdown.
  • Provides support to other Parks & Recreation programs, special events, facilities, and activities as needed.
  • Represents the City of League City and Parks & Recreation Department in a professional, helpful, and welcoming manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in recreation, athletics, customer service, or a related environment preferred.
  • Must be available to work evenings and weekends as needed to support athletic programs, leagues, tournaments, sporting events, and recreation services.

  • This is a part-time position, with hours varying based on departmental and program needs.

  • Work schedules may vary depending on program schedules, special activities, facility operations, and staffing needs.

  • May assist other Parks & Recreation programs, events, or facilities when operational needs require additional support.

  • Physical and Work Environment Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during programs and sporting events.

  • Ability to assist with moving and organizing recreational equipment and program materials.

  • Work may occur indoors or outdoors depending on program and event assignments.

  • Outdoor assignments may involve exposure to varying weather conditions.

The Recreation Specialist - Athletics & Recreation Services provides operational support to help ensure athletic programs and recreation services are welcoming, organized, and responsive to the needs of League City residents. The position supports the Recreation Supervisor and other department staff while serving as a knowledgeable and positive front-line representative of League City Parks & Recreation.

Part Time employees are not eligible for employer paid benefits or vacation. Part Time employees are eligible for 4 hours of holiday pay.
