Nature of Work
The Recreation Supervisor - Aquaticsis responsible forthe operation, programming, staffing, safety and strategic direction of the City of Northglenn's indoor and outdoor aquatic facilities, and aquatic recreation programs. The position may work with private and other governmental agencies; educational institutions; professional staff; and volunteers. The Recreation Supervisor acts as a division representative and is responsible for the supervision ofseasonal,part-time and full-time staff as well as contractual employees,including but not limited to coordinators, head lifeguards, lifeguards, swim instructors, swim coaches, cashiers, aquafitinstructors,pedalboat attendantsand more. Oversees indoor and outdoor aquatic operationsincluding activity pools, lap pools, seasonal outdoor poos, aquatic rentals,special eventsand instructional programming.Work is reviewed through reports, attendance records and evaluation devices, periodicmeetingsand evaluation of programs.
Duties and Responsibilities
Interviews, selects, schedules and supervises recreation staff, including workloads; evaluates staff and makes hiring and disciplinary recommendations, implements and interprets policies and procedures, and otherwise oversees the activities of subordinate personnel and volunteers, has the overall responsibility for one or more program areas within the Northglenn Recreation Center,and/or other recreation facilities.Develops leadership staff through coaching,mentoringand succession planning.
Plans, organizes,implementsand evaluates a wide varietyofaquatic programsandspecial eventsthattake place at a park, recreationcenter, orother facility, oversees safety of programs and participants.Developsinnovative programs designed to increase participation, expand communityaccessand improve cost recovery.This also includes meeting with public and community groups to explain and promote programs; schedules activities and coordinates programs with other departments and agencies, coordinates with other City departments as necessary,i.e.custodial, construction, and maintenance, Parks Divisionetc.
Monitors program activities including approving expenditures and ensuring activities are running smoothly,maintainreports, forms, records and correspondenceregardingprograms and facilities, responds to questions and complaints.Monitors program enrollment,utilization, participantsatisfactionand financial performance to recommend operational improvements.
Provides a variety of reports and other documents such as operating activity with statistical reports, annual budgetrecommendationsand revenue projections for submittal to departmenthead.Analyzesrevenues, expenditures, cost recovery, pricingstructuresand participation trends; develops recommendations to improve financial sustainability. Administers annual program budget; monitors, analyzes and reports on program costs and proposed changes; strategic marketing;produce print and digital media, social media, brandadherenceand web management.
Oversees rental and registration activities forparticular areasof supervision and ensuresaccuraterecord keeping for program outcomes.
Provides ongoing assessment of community recreation needs and develops newservices and programsto fill the needs as resources allow. Participates in and /or conducts training programsin order tomaintain"state-of-the-art" statuswith regard todevelopments in the recreation field.
Monitors aquatic facility mechanical systems including filtration, chemical automation,circulationand water quality. Troubleshoots operational issues, coordinates repairs with maintenance staff and contractors, and minimizes facility downtime. Ensures compliance with Colorado Department of Public Health and Environmentregulations, local healthcodesand industry best practices. Conducts routine safety inspections, investigatesincidents, manages correctiveactionsandmaintainsemergency preparedness.
Actively contributes to the development of departmental and facility policies and procedures.
Seeks out sponsorship opportunities.
Researchesgrant opportunities, writes grant proposals, and follows through on grant reporting if funding is secured.Assistwith oversight of fund-raising activities includingtimelydeposit of gifts,accurateandtimelyrecord keeping, and monitor gift receiptsrelativeto fund raising goals. Act as a good steward of donor dollars by ensuring expenditure activity is in line with donor intent.
Develops concession and merchandise strategies aimed at increasing sales, patronexperienceand brand awareness.
Responds to and resolves participant complaints or concerns.
Acts in the absence of the Recreation Manager when assigned.
Communicates and interacts effectively with co-workers, subordinates,supervisorand other City departments to convey information inan accurateandtimelymanner.Assistsorprovides assistance tofront desk and in building/facility supervision as needed. Opens/closes Recreation Center or otherfacilityas necessary.
Prepares bid specifications for contractors; screens responses and negotiates service agreements with independent contractors; evaluates programming done by contractors for future reference; recommends and implements changes to improve programming.
Reviews, approves,correctsor denies timesheets, PRAPs, leave requests,etc. Monitors,analyzesand reports on program costs and proposed changes.
Acts as City staff representative for certain foundations and commissions.
Driving is an essential function of the job.
Education and Experience
Graduation from an accreditedfour-yearcollege or university with aBachelorsdegreein recreation, physical education,or a related field; and five years of progressively responsible experience in a planned program, including two years of experience in program administration, budgeting and evaluation which provides the following knowledge, abilities and skills:
Considerable knowledge of the principles andobjectivesofAquatic facility and program management.
Considerable knowledge of the rules and regulations of a variety of sports and recreation activities.
Working knowledge of teaching methods and the rules and regulationsAquatic facility and programs.
Working knowledge of equipment, facilities,operationsand techniquesutilizedinrecreation and aquatic facilities.
Ability toestablishand maintain effective relationships with co-workers and program participants of all ages.
Ability tomaintainrecords and prepare reports.
Ability to deliver exceptional andtimelycustomer service.
Supplemental Information
Position may require individual topossessnecessary certification within a specified time limitin the area ofassignment. Additionallicenses,certificationsor training dependent on current State requirements. Pool Operator Certification, Lifeguard Training, and Water Safety Instructor are necessary certifications in the Aquatic Division. All recreation employees mustmaintaincurrent CPR/AED/First Aid certifications.Lifeguard Instructor Trainer and Water Safety Instructor Trainercertifications preferred.
Mustpossessat time of appointment, andmaintain, a valid Colorado motor vehicle operators license anda good drivingrecord.
This is an exempt position (not eligible for overtime).

Performs work using recommended andrequiredpersonal protective equipment (PPE) as described in the Job Safety Analysis (JSA) for each task.

Regular Full-Time
Employee works in a position that is classified as 40 hours per week. Eligible for full benefit package including medical, dental, life and LTD insurance; pension and general leave and optional benefits.
Regular Part-Time 30+
Employee works in a position that is classified as 30+ hours per week. City pays contribution toward employee only medical and dental insurance. Employee can pay the difference to cover spouse and/or children. Life & LTD insurance coverage is provided. Employee participates in the Citys pension plan and the City contributes to the plan. Employee accrues general leave on a pro-rated basis and optional benefits.
Regular Part-Time 20+
