General Description
The Department of Environment, Agriculture, Parks and Recreation (DEAPR) has an opening for a Recreation Program Coordinator. This specific position will be coordinating preschool and summer camps for ages 3-5. The work involves the responsibility for coordinating social, recreational, and/or educational activities including youth and adult athletic leagues, spring and summer camps, afterschool, preschool, specialized recreation programs and special events. An employee in this class will have responsibility in conducting an activity or the organization and initiation of activity groups.
Work is performed under the general direction of the Superintendent of Recreation or designee with leeway to exercise independent judgment within the framework of applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures in the performance of duties, both in terms of planning and accomplishing work, and in making decisions regarding customer needs and requests and conducting project assignments. Supervision over others is not required of this position. However, provides functional supervision to temporary employees Position does related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in sports administration/recreation management or closely related field AND two (2) years of work experience in promoting recreation activities or programs, conducting recreation activities or programs, or assisting in the administrative activities of municipal recreation, campus recreation or leisure service; OR
An equivalent combination of educational training and experience. A higher degree does not substitute for work experience.
Experience with preschool programs and summer camps preferred.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
Possession of or ability to obtain certifications in Adult/Child/Infant CPR, First Aid and AED within three (3) months of hire.
Employee schedules are distributed quarterly with work shifts assigned any time between the hours of 6:45am and 10:00pm, Monday through Sunday, not to exceed 40 hours per week.
All offers of employment are conditional upon successful clearance of an SBI background check with fingerprinting. Employment cannot commence until the employee has been cleared.
In accordance with Section 28 of the Orange County Code of Ordinances, and/or relevant State and Federal statutes, candidates for employment may be required to undergo fingerprinting and a criminal history background check based on the job responsibilities of the position. A fingerprinting check is conducted by the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) and a criminal history background check is conducted by an authorized Federal or State regulatory agency to determine eligibility for appointment. Employment is contingent upon successful clearance through these checks, which are mandated for certain roles depending on the nature of the job and applicable laws. Further, all offers of employment are contingent upon the satisfactory verification of your eligibility for employment, successful completion of the required pre-employment testing and/or screening, including drug testing when required and the submission and approval of all new hire documentation completion of your new hire paperwork.
