The City of Murrieta is accepting applications for the position of Recreation Coordinator to fill two (2) current vacancies in our Community Services Department. The eligibility list established may be used to fill upcoming vacancies within this classification for up to one (1) year.
POSITION
Recreation Coordinator - Youth Programming
Under general supervision, coordinates day camp programs and other youth-aged programming. Plans and assists in the coordination of youth special events. Must have the organizational skills to coordinate classes, instructors, and schedules. Should enjoy a fast-paced environment working with young children. Supports various Community Services Department facilities as necessary.
Recreation Coordinator - Senior Center
Under general supervision, coordinates programs, activities, and services for older adults at the Senior Center. Plans and assists in the coordination of senior programs, classes, activities, and special events. Must have the organizational skills to coordinate programs, instructors, volunteers, schedules, and facility activities. Should enjoy a fast-paced, customer-service-oriented environment working with older adults and community partners. Supports daily Senior Center operations and various Community Services Department facilities and programs as necessary.
Work Schedule: This position is currently assigned a regular 9/80 work schedule; however, the schedule is subject to change based on operational needs.
DESCRIPTION
Under general supervision, assists in planning, organizing, and coordinating one or more recreation programs and/or facilities; programs may include but are not limited to youth programs, aquatics, youth and adult sports, senior center activities, and special interest classes; assists in facilitating programs in recreation and sports facilities, including swimming pool, and senior center; provides administrative support and program assistance to the Recreation Supervisor, and performs related work as required.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general supervision from the Recreation Supervisor. Exercises technical and functional direction and provides training to lower-level seasonal staff.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
This is the journey-level classification in the Recreation Coordinator series responsible for performing the full range of assigned program duties, working independently, and exercising judgment and initiative. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.
This class is distinguished from the Senior Recreation Coordinator in that the latter is responsible for a more diverse and complex range of community programs, requiring the coordination of program budgets as well as the independent planning and implementation of programs.

Disaster Service Workers (new)
In accordance with Government Code 3100, this position is declared to be a disaster service worker subject to such disaster service activities as may be assigned to them by their superiors or by law.
Basic + Health Screening Requirements (Tier 2)
Final candidates must successfully complete a basic pre-employment screening process, which includes a Department of Justice Live Scan (DOJ/LS) background check, a non-safety pre-employment physical examination, and required health screenings, including tuberculosis (TB) testing and a drug screening.

Must possess mobility to work in a standard office and/or recreational facility setting and use standard office and/or recreation equipment, including a computer, to operate a motor vehicle and to visit various City, recreation, and meeting sites; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person, before groups, and over the telephone. Standing and walking between work areas may be required. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate standard office equipment. Positions in this classification frequently bend, stoop, kneel, reach, climb, and walk on uneven surfaces to participate in recreational activities. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 50 pounds or heavier weights, in all cases, with the use of proper equipment and/or assistance from other staff.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Employees work in an office environment with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions, and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. Employees work in the field where they are exposed to loud noise levels, cold and hot temperatures, and inclement weather conditions; when rendering first aid or CPR, employees may be exposed to blood and bodily fluids. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.
