Position Summary
The Recovery Support Specialist (RSS) is responsible for working with individuals referred to the STAR Program to support and strengthen their capacity to engage in their personal recovery from Opioid Use Disorders and co-occurring problems. The RSS will help individuals with their most pressing early recovery needs to enhance their home, health, community, and purpose to successfully achieve goals as identified in the individualized recovery plan and remain in the Recovery Zone. The RSS will assist clients in navigating the mental health and substance use system of care, remove barriers to recovery, stay engaged in the recovery process and live a full life in the community of their choice.
Essential Functions
Provide peer coaching face to face and/or via telephone and teach and role model the value of recovery by offering support which includes sharing their recovery experience while individuals move through the stages of change to encourage them in their recovery.
Serve as a recovery agent providing advocacy and assistance for the individual to obtain services that suit their recovery needs by providing outreach and engagement via warm hand-offs in the Center and throughout the community.
Assist team and individual in the development of a recovery plan based on the individual's identified goals inclusive of strengths, needs and abilities.
Work collaboratively with the case manager to ensure the individual engages in services for up to one (1) year. Enhance identification and participation in the recovery community.
Contributes to agency performance improvement efforts to assure treatment is in accordance with state regulations and accrediting body standards. Collaborate/communicate with system partners.
Documents all clinical activity and correspondence in accordance with Center policy, state regulations, and Joint Commission standards.
Engage in team meetings, individual supervision and rotating on-call.
Works closely with the Program Director - CARE on progress towards program goals and to ensure all data collection required for grant reporting is completed.
Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Essential Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent.
Certified Recovery Support Practitioner (CRSP) credential through the NJ Certification Board (or equivalent agency in other states).
Two (2) years' experience in providing services to individuals diagnosed with OUD and their families/caregivers who have co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders, including LGBT; pregnant women; IV drug users; justice involved; veterans; individuals with complex trauma and those exposed to adverse childhood experiences who are at risk of developing chronic diseases due to health disparities. Has experience in working across cultures.
Lived experience in mental health and/or substance use disorders in recovery for a minimum of five years.
Must possess a valid NJ driver's license in good standing.
Skill in the operation of office equipment, including but not limited to computers, printers, copiers, calculators, and other job specific equipment.
Ability to work collaboratively and build relationships with colleagues, coworkers, vendors, contractors, and the public.
Ability to accurately prepare and maintain files, records, reports, and logs.
Skill in using computer applications including electronic health record, spreadsheets, databases, and word processing software.
Ability to identify and maintain confidential information.
Ability to comprehend, express and exchange information in English over the phone, in person, in writing or through other communication or electronic devices.
Preferred Qualifications
Associates degree.
Knowledge of Wellness and Recovery Principles, Person Centered Care, Trauma Informed Care and Integrated Healthcare.
Bilingual (English/Spanish)
Salary: $50,000/year
