    Description

    POSITION SUMMARY

    Under the general supervision of the Recreation Program Coordinator, assists in organizing and conducting a variety of recreation programs and activities for children and adults; provides on-site supervision for rentals and program implementation; provides facilities oversight and set-up during scheduled activities, when assigned to facilities monitoring; maintains a variety of records; does other related work as required.

    This is a part-time position and working hours will not exceed 19 hours per week. Evening and weekend availability is required.

    Pay: $15 per hour

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Provide excellent customer service
    • Organize a variety of games/activities associated with programs and special events
    • Assist with the delivery of recreation programs/events
    • Monitor participants and activities in recreation facilities
    • Administer evening and weekend program/event schedules set by the supervisor
    • Provide a safe environment for all participants
    • Perform various maintenance duties as needed
    • Open and close recreation facilities as needed
    • Enforce departmental rules and regulations
    • Ensure safety and proper working condition of the equipment
    • Perform a variety of clerical duties including preparation and maintenance of files and reports
    • Help prepare, set-up and disassemble appropriate materials and equipment for programs, activities, special events and/or rentals.
    • Answers telephones, provides the public with needed information, takes registration, reservations, and collects program/rental fees.
    • Perform related tasks as required

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

    General knowledge of the philosophy and objectives of municipal recreation; ability to provide leadership for recreation participants; ability to prepare reports; ability to use instruments, tools, or other equipment used in recreation programs/events; ability to operate a personal computer, including knowledge of applicable software packages; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, participants, and the general public. 

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing,
      balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking,
      pushing, pulling, lifting, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
    • Must be able to perform medium-level work exerting up to 50 pounds of force
      occasionally; 20 pounds of force frequently; and 10 pounds constantly, in various
      lifting positions, such as overhead, chest height, and more
    • Must possess the visual acuity to operate office and building equipment such as
      the telephone, copy machine, security systems, heating and air-conditioning
      systems, and other equipment as needed.

     WORKING ENVIRONMENT

    The employee primarily works in a standard office setting with extensive public contact and frequent interruptions. Must be conscious of safety methods to avoid injury to others and themselves; May be subject to hazards including working in both inside and outside environments, in
    hot and cold weather, in large crowds of people, and exposure to various
    hazards such as noise, proximity to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, dust, mists,
    fumes, oils, tight quarters, and narrow passageways. This position is subject to all State
    and Federal OSHA regulations, including, but not limited to the following: bloodborne
    pathogens, hazard communication/GHS, personal protective equipment, slips, trips, and
    falls, etc.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

    Any combination of education equivalent to some coursework in high school and experience in recreational programming is preferred.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

    Requires flexible work schedule, including week day daytime and evening and weekend daytime and evening hours. 

    CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

    Possess or have the ability to obtain First Aid, CPR and AED certification

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

    The Town of Matthews requires background checks to be conducted on the final candidate(s) applying for any position with the Town of Matthews. For this position, final candidates must pass a background process to include but are not limited to work history verification, professional/personal reference checks, pre-employment drug screening and physical, criminal background, and driving record checks. During the selection process, candidates may be asked to take a skills test and/or participate in other assessments.
