Real Estate Underwriter

?? We’re Hiring: Real Estate Underwriter | Lawrence, NY | $90K–$120K + Bonus

Preston Harris Group is partnering with a real estate investment firm to find an experienced Real Estate Underwriter for their acquisitions and capital markets team.

You’ll evaluate investment opportunities across a diversified portfolio of hospitality, retail, and industrial assets, along with structured credit products such as first mortgage bridge loans and preferred equity. The role also carries accounting oversight, including monthly reviews of internal financial statements alongside an outsourced accounting team.

What you’ll do:
?? Underwrite acquisitions and recapitalizations across limited-service and select-service hotels, retail/NNN, and industrial/flex properties
?? Build and maintain dynamic Excel models covering cash flow, debt service, waterfalls, and return metrics (IRR, equity multiple, cash-on-cash)
?? Size and structure first mortgage and preferred equity investments, analyzing LTV, debt yield, coverage ratios, and exit strategies
?? Run market comp analysis, including RevPAR benchmarking for hotels and rent/cap rate analysis for retail and industrial
?? Review third-party reports (appraisals, PIP, environmental, title) and flag material risks
?? Review monthly financial statements and oversee the outsourced accounting team
?? Draft Investment Committee memos, deal summaries, and investor presentations
?? Coordinate with legal counsel, lenders, brokers, and operating partners through closing
?? Monitor asset performance against underwritten projections with asset management

What you bring:
? 3–6 years in real estate private equity, debt funds, commercial mortgage banking, or investment banking with core underwriting responsibilities
? Strong Excel modeling skills (hotel, retail, and industrial proformas preferred)
? Familiarity with structured credit (first mortgages, mezzanine, preferred equity) and related legal/structural considerations
? Hands-on accounting experience
? Excellent written communication and the ability to manage multiple deal pipelines independently

Compensation & location:
?? Base salary: $90,000–$120,000 (commensurate with experience)
?? Transaction-based performance bonuses
?? Full-time, on-site in Lawrence, NY
