Location: Kent Campus Hospital

Status: Full Time 80 Hours

SALARY RANGE: 16.57 - 24.86 HOURLY

General Summary:

The Diagnostic Imaging Reading Room Assistant works under the direction of the Diagnostic Imaging Senior manager. The Reading Room Assistant is a key component to the Diagnostic Imaging Department, with their primary responsibility being support to the radiologists in the communication of STAT and Critical findings to the ordering providers and appropriate clinical staff.

Responsibilities:

  1. Effectively communicates STAT and designated patient findings to the ordering or covering providers. Communicates Critical results to designated nursing staff for current in-patient studies.

  2. Ensures proper documentation of communications in the patient's EMR via the STAT, Fax, and Critical Finding worklists. This documentation must be complete, accurate, and be supportive for any potential legal investigation regarding appropriate patient care.

  3. Appropriately handles Hold & Call patients by conveying ordering provider instructions or safely transferring the patient to the designated location based on the ordering provider's instructions.

  4. Work closely with the radiologists, care team providers, and technologists by ensuring a smooth and efficient workflow.

  5. Monitor the PACS worklist by ensuring that only cases designated for the in-house radiologists are on this list, ensuring efficiency and productivity for this group.

  6. Provide primary phone support for the radiologists for contacting physicians and outside customers; including handling calls for radiologists working at multiple outside locations.

  7. Is proficient in the use of the hospital EMR, PACS system and all electronic communication tools available. Ensures that all electronic transfers of patient results are successful and can identify/correct any incorrect provider demographics, ensuring successful future communications

  8. Provides help with File room duties to transfer images for continuing care purposes and deliver records to requested areas within the hospital.

  9. Manage multiple weekly worklists for tumor board presentations.

  10. Completes and documents daily QC checks for in-house mammography workstation.

  11. All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities.
