    Full-Time Ranked Faculty: Life Sciences Nutrition

    This position is for full-time Instruction in the Life Sciences and Foundations Department.

    The Life Sciences and Foundations Department at Palmer College of Chiropractic is seeking a faculty member to serve as a lead instructor in the chiropractic program. We welcome candidates who are committed to evidence-based teaching and interested in advancing learning and scholarship.

    The term "Faculty" is limited to regular personnel at Palmer whose regular assignment includes instruction, research and/or public service as a principal activity and who hold academic rank as Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant professor or Instructor. Faculty play an important role in curriculum and policy development; faculty are planners who must constantly look to the long-term future of education and discovery. The faculty is expected to work closely with students, other faculty and administration of the College in promoting interests of the Palmer University System and its strategic plan.

    SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Faculty duties fall under several areas: teaching, scholarly work, service/citizenship and advising/mentorship. Some faculty may also have patient care responsibilities as part of their assignment. Specifically, the following activities are expected of all faculty:
    • Preparation and presentation of individual lectures.
    • Course syllabus management, contents review.
    • Development and administration of formative and summative assessments.
    • Contribute to the development, administration and grading of course evaluations.
    • Maintain appropriate office hours as required.
    • Coordinate all learning activities.
    • Proctoring exams and other responsibilities related to teaching and advising.
    • Serve on appointed committees, task forces and other teams.
    • Perform other duties as assigned

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Ability to perform assigned teaching duties effectively.
    • Ability to utilize general office equipment and other necessary equipment in teaching.
    • Ability to effectively advise and mentor students.
    • Ability to work effectively with others.
    • Ability to work independently and autonomously.
    • Ability to communicate effectively.
    • Ability to work various hours as job requires.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    Qualified applicants must hold a master's, doctoral, or equivalent terminal degree, such as a PhD or DC, in a life science, health science, chiropractic, or closely related discipline from an accredited institution or its foreign equivalent. Candidates whose degree is outside the assigned teaching field must have at least 18 graduate credit hours in the applicable life sciences subfield, such as nutrition or biochemistry. All candidates must have preparation and experience appropriate to their assigned courses and proficiency with email and Microsoft Office. Higher education teaching experience, evidence of teaching excellence, and familiarity with instructional technology and learning management systems are preferred; relevant research, clinical, or professional experience may also be considered. Iowa licensure or eligibility is required only when applicable to assigned responsibilities. Employment is contingent on a background check consistent with applicable law and institutional policy.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

    • Performs sedentary to light work in a ventilated, lighted, and temperature-controlled office setting.
    • Frequent need to stand, stoop, walk, sit, lift light objects (up to 10 pounds) and perform other similar actions during the workday.
