This skilled-trade position focuses on inspecting railcars, identifying repair needs, and completing approved welding and mechanical work so equipment can safely return to service.This opportunity may be a strong fit for someone with experience in railcar repair, welding, metal fabrication, industrial maintenance, diesel mechanics, trailer repair, or heavy-equipment service. Previous railroad experience is beneficial, but qualified candidates with related trade experience are encouraged to apply.You will work primarily outdoors and regularly use welding machines, cutting equipment, grinders, hand tools, and other industrial repair equipment.Primary ResponsibilitiesAs a Railcar Repair Technician, you will:Examine railcars for damage, deterioration, structural fatigue, and mechanical concernsDetermine whether required repairs fall within the operation's authorized scopeComplete approved work according to customer requirements and applicable AAR specificationsPerform stick welding, metal cutting, grinding, fabrication, lubrication, and mechanical repairsUse pipe wrenches, pry bars, ratchets, chipping tools, and related equipmentRecord inspection findings and completed repairs accuratelyEscalate repairs that cannot be performed at the facilityOperate assigned company equipment, which may include tractors, utility vehicles, pickup trucks, and vansMaintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe and orderly conditionFollow all company, customer, and industry safety proceduresExperience We're SeekingCandidates should have previous experience in at least one of the following areas:Welding or metal fabricationIndustrial or mechanical maintenanceDiesel, trailer, or heavy-equipment repairRailcar inspection or repairAnother comparable skilled mechanical tradeStick-welding experience is strongly preferred. Experience performing welds in the 4G or 5G positions is also highly valued.Successful candidates should be able to follow detailed instructions, recognize mechanical or structural concerns, and complete dependable work without sacrificing safety or quality.Physical and Outdoor Work RequirementsThis is an active position performed around railcars and heavy equipment.
