Description
Job Title: Rail Car Technician
DETAILS:
- Duration: 6-Month Contract-to-Hire
- Location: Pitkin Yard – Brooklyn, NY and Coney Island NY available.
- Pay Rate: $26.00/hour
- Benefits: Optional cafeteria-style benefits for contractors. Full company benefits available upon permanent hire.
- Shift: Sunday–Thursday | 10:00 PM – 6:00 AM (3rd Shift)
Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Rail Car Technician to join our team at the Pitkin Yard Maintenance Facility in Brooklyn, NY. This position is ideal for candidates with strong mechanical and/or electrical experience who enjoy hands-on work in a fast-paced maintenance environment. Candidates from the military, aviation, automotive, heavy equipment, manufacturing, or rail industries are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
Mechanical
- Perform metal finishing efficiently and accurately.
- Set up work on rail cars using drawings, procedures, and verbal instructions.
- Create templates, hand jigs, and production aids.
- Repair and modify various materials to company standards.
- Build jigs, fixtures, and other production tools.
- Safely operate electrical and pneumatic hand tools.
Electrical
- Assemble wire harnesses and terminate wire ends.
- Route wiring and cables through rail cars using electrical drawings.
- Read and troubleshoot electrical schematics.
- Perform soldering and electrical wire connections.
- Diagnose and repair electrical issues.
Qualifications
- Mechanical aptitude and/or electrical wiring experience.
- Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation.
- Experience troubleshooting mechanical or electrical systems.
- Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
- Reliable work ethic and flexibility to work assigned schedules.
Preferred Background

Work Environment
Work is performed in a rail maintenance facility with both indoor and outdoor assignments. Safety, quality, and teamwork are essential to success in this role.
