Overview:

The Radiologic Technologist I is responsible for performing duties involving the taking of radiographs and fluoroscopic examinations of various portions of the body.

Special Instructions: Orthopedic Clinic Radiology Technician Responsibilities:
  • Receives patient and checks x-ray form to determine type and extent of examination involved. 
  • Secures records and reports for patients who have been examined previously.
  • Secures patients from and returns to proper areas upon completion of x-ray examination or treatment.
  • Assists patient in preparation for examination and insures physical position for required exposure for all types of radiology.
  • Performs and/or assists with radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures while maintaining optimum patient safety.
  • May mix and administer chemical mixtures orally or as enemas to render organs of the body more opaque.
  • In accordance with prescribed procedures, may be required to develop exposed film. 
  • Prepare and replace developing and fixing solutions according to standard formulas.
  • Maintains films and records as required.
  • Reports all problems in equipment to Director as appropriate.
  • May schedule patient appointments when clerk-typist is not on duty.
  • Performs recordkeeping pertaining to the job.
  • May assist Radiologist in making special examinations.
  • May be required to operate mobile x-ray machine in Operating and Emergency Room or at bedside.
  • Retrieves and returns isotopes or radium to proper storage area.
  • Prepares and operates equipment for radiation therapy and records appropriate data.
  • Determines if levels of free radiation are within limits of safety in storage or area of use.
  • May prepare opaque compounds for IV administration by physician/radiologist.
  • Must rotate on-call as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Education

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.

• Satisfactory completion of formal Radiologic Technology training in an AMA-approved school.

Licenses & Certifications

• Must have state licensure as required.

Experience

• Six (6) months to one (1) year of on-the-job training is required to attain proficiency in the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities.

Required Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

• Knowledge of radiologic procedures and imaging equipment.

• Ability to perform diagnostic imaging examinations under supervision.

• Ability to prepare patients and imaging equipment for procedures.

• Knowledge of radiation safety practices and patient protection standards.

• Ability to maintain accurate patient records and imaging documentation.

• Ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and healthcare team members.

• Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment.

• Employees in this grade have not taken the registry examination or have not successfully passed the registry examination.
