Description

Job Title: R&D TechnicianJob Description

The R&D Technician supports scientists in a state-of-the-art laboratory by performing daily sample preparation, routine analytical testing, and general lab maintenance. This role focuses on accurate execution of wet chemistry techniques, careful documentation of analytical activities, and adherence to established procedures to support research and development and new product initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Support scientists with daily laboratory tasks and preparation activities to ensure smooth operation of the R&D labs.
  • Perform daily sample preparation, including weighing samples and preparing solutions for analysis.
  • Conduct basic laboratory testing such as pH measurements, dilutions, wet chemistry procedures, titrations, and viscosity measurements as assigned.
  • Assist with gas chromatography testing under guidance, following written analytical procedures.
  • Clean and maintain glassware and ensure laboratory equipment and work areas remain organized and in good working order.
  • Stock and monitor inventory of laboratory supplies, reagents, and consumables in the R&D labs.
  • Follow work instructions, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and company practices consistently and accurately.
  • Document analytical activities, observations, and results accurately, in a timely manner, and with a right-first-time mindset to maintain data integrity.
  • Follow written analytical procedures and identify potential challenges in executing analytical methods.
  • Support troubleshooting activities by communicating issues clearly and assisting in implementing corrective actions under supervision.
  • Work collaboratively in a team environment to complete assigned tasks and support ongoing research and new product development projects.
  • Manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and quality standards.
  • Use Microsoft Office and data acquisition software to record, analyze, and report laboratory data as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with scientists and team members, both verbally and in writing, to ensure clarity of expectations and results.
  • Work under supervision while applying scientific judgment and professional competency to complete laboratory activities safely and effectively.

Essential Skills

  • High school diploma or associate degree in a scientific discipline such as chemistry, biochemistry, or a related field.
  • Prior laboratory experience or formal lab training, including hands-on work with basic lab techniques.
  • Practical experience with sample preparation and weighing of samples for analytical testing.
  • Foundational knowledge of chemistry or biochemistry and comfort working in a research and development laboratory environment.
  • Ability to perform wet chemistry techniques, including dilutions and titrations, following established procedures.
  • Experience or familiarity with pH measurements and viscosity testing.
  • Ability to follow detailed work instructions, SOPs, and written analytical procedures accurately and consistently.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate, timely documentation of analytical activities and results.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with scientists at different levels.
  • Capability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment while maintaining quality and organization.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills for documenting work and interacting with colleagues.
  • Ability to work under supervision while exercising sound scientific judgment and professional conduct.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with gas chromatography or a strong interest in learning gas chromatography techniques.
  • Exposure to research and development or new product development environments.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Familiarity with data acquisition software for recording and analyzing laboratory data.
  • Experience working in a regulated or GMP laboratory environment is beneficial.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify issues in analytical methods and contribute to troubleshooting under guidance.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain a clean, orderly laboratory workspace.

Work Environment

This role is based in a modern, state-of-the-art R&D laboratory within a large pharmaceutical manufacturing setting. The team consists of Scientists at various levels who collaborate closely while also allowing technicians to work independently on assigned tasks. The lab operates under clean, GMP-compliant conditions with a strong emphasis on data integrity, safety, and adherence to SOPs. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with potential flexibility for a 7:30 a.m. or 8:00 a.m. start time, depending on business needs. The work environment is fast-paced and team-oriented, with opportunities for growth and internal promotion. The dress code is business casual, appropriate for a professional laboratory setting, with any additional safety attire or personal protective equipment provided and required as needed.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Columbus, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $21.00/hr.
