R&D Lab Technician- Food & Beverage

Location: San Leandro, California (Onsite)

Part Time: 4-6 hours per day

Role Overview

We are seeking an R&D Lab Technician to support product development work. This role is ideal for an early-career professional or recent graduate who is excited to gain hands-on experience in food and beverage innovation while contributing to development projects. In this role, you will partner closely with our Sauce Team to support sensory evaluations, analytical testing, product stability studies, and product development activities. You will help prepare samples, organize testing, collect and document data, and maintain a laboratory environment that enables learning, experimentation, and innovation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide sensory and analytical testing support by preparing, serving, and organizing samples for sensory evaluations, conducting product analytical testing, and managing product stability studies.
  • Support product development initiatives including product prototyping work, preparing bench samples, assisting with product evaluations, and recording observations.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient laboratory environment, ensuring ingredients, equipment, and testing materials are prepared and available.
  • Uphold food safety and sanitation standards to create a safe and productive workspace.
  • Maintain organized testing records and document observations with care to ensure traceability and consistency.
  • Collaborate with team members on sensory evaluations and development activities as needed.
  • Engage in serving and cleaning for sensory, analytical testing, and product stability testing for sauce projects.
  • Conduct analytical testing and reporting for all trial and small-scale production batches.
  • Prepare bench samples and perform analytical testing for new sauce development.

Required Qualifications

Experience:

  • 1+ years of relevant experience, which may include internships, co-ops, laboratory coursework, laboratory experience, quality assurance, or product development support.

Skills:

  • Interest in food and beverage innovation, sensory science, or product development.
  • Exposure to laboratory environments, sensory evaluation, or analytical testing.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established procedures and protocols.
  • Ability to organize work, maintain accurate records, and manage multiple priorities.
  • Comfortable working with food products and adhering to food safety and sanitation requirements.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with a willingness to learn from others.
  • Basic computer proficiency for data entry, documentation, and reporting.
  • A growth mindset, intellectual curiosity, and enthusiasm for turning ideas into products.

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

  • Associates degree, bachelors degree, or coursework in Food Science, Chemistry, Microbiology, Biology, Nutrition, Culinary Arts, or a related field is preferred.

Work Environment

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Stand, walk, bend, and twist for up to 6 hours.
