Demiurge Studios is seeking a Quest Designer with open-world experience. Utilizing the game's mechanics and systems, you'll craft an inspiring game world and create engaging quests, activities, and encounters for the next great Demiurge game.

The ideal candidate is passionate about quest and level design and brings hands-on experience across the full open-world quest and content pipeline, from whiteboxing and quest prototyping to bug fixing and final polish.

Remote work is available for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Craft unique spaces where gameplay flow and visual composition form memorable player experiences that support the creative pillars of the game.
  • Collaborate with a cross-functional team to prototype, iterate, and polish compelling open-world quests and supporting locations that enhance gameplay, encourage exploration, and provide unique encounter spaces.
  • Own your content, including gathering feedback, bug fixing, and iteration notes from leadership for refining your designs
  • Solve creative & technical challenges that require navigating ambiguity and production constraints.
  • Technical implementation of level designs and quests within Unreal Engine 5, utilizing Blueprints and basic scripting/coding.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years as a level designer with demonstrable experience creating level/world designs and quests in Unreal Engine 5. Please submit a portfolio link that showcases your experience!
  • Expertise in understanding the relationship between game systems and world spaces, with the ability to build spaces that highlight specific game systems or player abilities in interesting and creative ways.
  • Fundamental understanding of level design principles, such as signposting, metrics, flow, and understanding of open-world design.
  • Proven experience creating level/world design content in Unreal Engine 5 with Blueprints.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work in a highly collaborative design team to solve problems, iterate on designs, and adjust level layouts.
  • Translate feedback from team members, user play tests, and other validation efforts into actionable level and quest design iterations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey designs clearly.
  • Passion for open-world action games!

Preference for Candidates With

  • Shipped an open-world title
  • Narrative design experience
  • Non-linear level design experience
  • Environment art or visual design experience

$77,000 - $101,000 a year

This range reflects the full annual base salary range for the position. Since this is a short-term position, actual pay will be prorated to a bi-weekly rate of $2,961-$3,884. Actual compensation may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, professional experience, qualifications, and other business considerations.

In addition to base pay, employees are eligible to participate in the company's benefit plans outlined in the About Us section.
