Job Description

The Quality Lab Technician supports quality assurance activities within a manufacturing environment by performing routine product and material testing, documenting results, and maintaining laboratory equipment. This role works closely with production teams to verify that raw materials, in-process products, and finished goods consistently meet established quality and food safety standards, while contributing to investigations and continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Perform testing and inspections on raw materials, in-process products, and finished goods to verify compliance with established specifications and quality standards.
• Collect samples from production and laboratory environments, document test results, and maintain accurate and complete quality records.
• Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory and testing equipment to ensure reliable and consistent performance.
• Review test data, identify potential quality concerns, and clearly communicate findings to appropriate production and quality personnel.
• Assist with quality investigations, including root cause analysis, corrective actions, and continuous improvement projects.
• Provide support and guidance to manufacturing teams on quality-related issues, procedures, and best practices.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized laboratory and work area in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
• Follow company policies, regulatory requirements, and applicable food safety or manufacturing quality standards such as HACCP, SQF, and related programs.
• Support production operations on a rotating night shift schedule as needed, including occasional extended hours.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance product quality, process reliability, and overall operational efficiency.

Essential Skills

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• 3 years of experience in a manufacturing, laboratory, quality control, or quality assurance environment.
• 1-3 years of experience in food manufacturing, including familiarity with programs such as HACCP, SQF, PCQI, or similar food safety frameworks.
• Hands-on experience with quality control practices, laboratory testing, and analysis.
• Ability to accurately collect, record, and analyze data in a fast-paced production environment.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills to manage samples, documentation, and testing schedules.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications for data entry, reporting, and communication.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills to convey test results and quality concerns to team members.
• Strong problem-solving abilities to support investigations and corrective actions.
• Comfort working in a manufacturing environment and performing physical activities such as standing, walking, lifting, and climbing stairs as needed.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Associate or bachelor's degree in a scientific or technical field, such as food science, chemistry, biology, or a related discipline, is preferred.
• Quality Control Technician, Laboratory Technician, Manufacturing Quality Technician, QA/QC Analyst, or similar role is beneficial.
• Experience with wet chemistry techniques, including titration and related analytical methods, is an advantage.
• Knowledge of microbiology and its application in food manufacturing and quality control is desirable.
• Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and food safety standards enhances success in this role.
• Interest in or experience with food science, chemistry, or biology, particularly in a production or laboratory setting.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and adapt to changing production priorities.
• Motivation to gain hands-on laboratory experience and grow within a quality-focused manufacturing organization.

Work Environment

This position is based in a food manufacturing facility with work primarily performed in a climate-controlled laboratory that supports dairy production operations. The role involves regular interaction with production areas, adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices, and compliance with food safety and quality standards. Team members work Monday through Friday on either a day shift (6:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.) or a night shift (10:45 p.m. to 7:15 a.m.), with occasional possibilities of starting up to four hours early or staying up to four hours later depending on production needs. The environment requires comfort with physical activities such as standing for extended periods, walking throughout the facility, lifting as needed, and climbing stairs. Laboratory work involves using standard testing and analytical equipment in a clean, organized, and safety-focused setting, offering opportunities to gain practical, hands-on lab experience in a structured manufacturing context.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Indianapolis, IN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.05 - $24.55/hr.
