The Quality Inspection Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that products and services meet customer expectations and company standards. They also enforce quality control policies and procedures, develop inspection planning, sampling levels, and oversee the work of Quality and Certified Weld Inspectors. The supervisor will also delegate tasks and prioritize workloads, including adherence to the published Priority Dispatch report on a daily basis.

The Quality Inspection Supervisor will also aid in review of documentation and visual and mechanical inspection to ensure raw materials, purchased product and services, and output of our production processes comply to contract requirements. They will ensure that inspections are valid to provide compliant material to the next step in our value stream and to prevent discrepant material from being incorporated in the next higher up configuration.

Responsibilities:

  • Continuous Improvement & Talent Planning:

  • Promote process improvement

  • Drive the talent planning and 1:1 development with direct reports and flow throughout the manufacturing organization

  • Identify training gaps of direct reports and recommend development training

  • Lead and guide department leads

  • Recognize and reward an employee for extra effort for an outstanding job or idea that proves very successful

  • Workload Management:

  • Ensure daily work schedules are adhered to and work through exceptions

  • Identify bottlenecks and make recommendations for opportunities for improvement

  • Provide feedback to Master Scheduler on workload levels, types, and available capacity

  • On-time delivery, provide job status and estimate of completion dates

  • Follow-up with leads daily to understand issues or concerns they may encounter

  • Monitor their daily routine to verify they are actively engaged with their reports and satisfying their needs and addressing their concerns

  • Ensure leads are productive and efficient

  • Fill-in for absent employees or help when needed

  • Team Management:

  • Actively support Leadership meetings

  • Monitor employee and department performance

  • Address issues timely through documented conversations

  • Drive accountability in all facets of operations

  • New Hires:

  • Ensure daily work is performed safely and all employees are adhering to the safety policy

  • Provide verbal reminders to employees about work policies, work start times, safety, work behavior, values, etc.

  • Inspection-specific

  • Develop, mentor, and train employees to inspection techniques/procedures to ensure the product is inspected successfully in accordance with company and customer specifications

  • Guide others in best/proper use of a variety of inspection equipment

  • Demonstrate responsible behavior according to FVMT Values

  • Ensure the health and safety of oneself and others at all times as well as, communicate potential hazards to the appropriate personnel

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Quality Manager

Must be a US citizen.

Education:

  • Required base minimum is a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Associate degree (or 5-8 years of manufacturing experience in a metal fabrication environment in lieu of an associate degree)

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of quality inspector experience in a metal fabrication environment required
  • Minimum of 1 year Lead Inspector experience preferred
  • Accurate blueprint reading experience
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

Specialized Experience:

  • Strong coaching and mentoring, motivation, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to utilize a drawing, set up the correct tooling and measuring equipment needed to inspect parts to the company quality standards
  • Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, internet, and email
