TAIT is seeking a Freelance Quality Inspector to provide short-term support to our Quality team. This role will be responsible for inspecting primarily steel and aluminum fabricated parts to ensure they meet required drawings, dimensions, specifications, and quality standards.
The ideal candidate has previous experience in a manufacturing, fabrication, machining, or quality inspection environment and is comfortable performing hands-on dimensional inspections.
Essential Responsibilities
• Inspect fabricated steel and aluminum components against engineering drawings and dimensional requirements.
• Perform geometric and dimensional measurements using standard inspection tools, including calipers, tape measures, and similar hand-measuring equipment.
• Identify and document dimensional discrepancies, defects, and workmanship issues.
• Communicate inspection findings clearly with Quality, Production, and Fabrication teams.
• Support incoming, in-process, and final inspection activities as required.
• Maintain accurate and organized inspection records.
• Assist with other Quality-related inspection activities as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
• Previous experience performing inspection, quality control, fabrication, machining, manufacturing, or similar hands-on technical work.
• Ability to perform reliable dimensional measurements using calipers, tape measures, and other basic inspection tools.
• Ability to read and interpret basic engineering or fabrication drawings.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify when components do not meet specified requirements.
• Ability to work independently and communicate issues clearly.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with advanced dimensional inspection equipment, including portable CMM equipment such as a Romer Arm.
• Experience using micrometers, height gauges, bore gauges, or other precision measuring equipment.
• Familiarity with GD&T.
• Previous experience inspecting welded or fabricated steel and aluminum assemblies.
This is a freelance/contract position intended to provide additional Quality inspection capacity over the next several months. Formal Quality certifications are not required; practical inspection experience and the ability to take accurate, repeatable measurements are the primary requirements.
