SUMMARY:
Quality Assurance owns the processes and tools by which Firefly identifies, contains, eliminates, and prevents non-conformances. Quality is charged with defining and maintaining the processes and tools that prove product capabilities meet requirements and result in a predictably economical and reliable product.
The Firefly Laser Tracker / Portable CMM Inspector is responsible for the dimensional inspection and acceptance of qualification and flight hardware across both large-volume and close-tolerance applications. Using portable laser tracker systems and articulating arm (portable CMM) equipment to verify that all key performance and design characteristics are met prior to launch, these inspectors play a critical role in ensuring mission success. This position is located at our Production and Test facility north of Cedar Park, in Briggs, TX.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform large-volume dimensional inspections on launch vehicle and spacecraft structures, components, and sub-assemblies using portable laser tracker and articulating arm systems (e.g., Leica AT960 Absolute Tracker, Hexagon Absolute Arm) and associated metrology software.
- Set up, level, and establish coordinate systems to perform tooling and fixture alignments, part-to-CAD comparisons, and best-fit alignments.
- Inspect complex flight hardware from drawing requirements utilizing a firm understanding of GD&T.
- Collaborate with quality specialists and engineers to develop and execute detailed inspection programs that assure adherence to design, specification, and testing requirements—ensuring all actions required for product acceptance are conducted accurately and efficiently.
- Generate clear, accurate inspection reports and dimensional analysis for engineering and manufacturing stakeholders.
- Document non-conformances in accordance with prescribed procedures and process as required.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to investigate and resolve non-conformances and quality issues, including development and implementation of robust corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Quarantine and process non-conforming product.
- Maintain tool control and calibration processes within the assigned work center.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (Required):
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate.
- 2+ years of hands-on inspection experience in an aerospace, military, or manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience operating a laser tracker system (e.g., Leica/Hexagon) or comparable portable large-volume metrology equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and GD&T, and to understand related quality control documentation and standards.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Flexibility regarding workflow and process, with excellent organizational skills.
- Willingness to work with a team, share expertise, and follow instructions to accomplish established goals.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate degree or higher in quality, engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Software proficiency in laser tracker metrology platforms such as Inspire, SpatialAnalyzer (SA), PolyWorks, or PC-DMIS.
- GDTP Certification or working knowledge of ASME Y14.5.
- Demonstrated experience applying quality assurance principles, methods, inspection techniques, equipment, and tools used in quality control.
- Comprehensive understanding of aerospace manufacturing processes, materials, and specifications.
- Demonstrated experience applying aerospace quality standards such as AS9100 or ISO 9001.
