Position Summary
Reporting to the Manager of Quality and Food Safety (Edible Nuts), and the Assistant Manager of Food Safety and Quality, the Quality and Food Safety (QFS) Supervisor will be responsible and accountable for quality, food safety and compliance within the OEN Edenton facility. They will assist the QFS Manager with planning, coordinating and implementation and management of all aspects of the quality programs designed by management, customers, and regulatory programs, are met. The QFS Supervisor will lead a team of quality technicians and those assigned to support the Quality Department to provide training, information and troubleshooting support to the quality team ensuring that all programs and procedures meet the company’s, regulatory, and customer’s compliance standards.
This position requires a general understanding of food laws and regulations. Preferably they have prior experience in quality and food safety within a manufacturing atmosphere. They should have proficient risk assessment ability and be comfortable in leading root cause analysis for incident causation and prevention. It would be advantageous to have knowledge in BRCGS/SQF, Hazard Analysis, Critical Control Points, HACCP, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
The ideal candidate should possess great communication skills (oral and written)and be efficient/professional when collaborating with quality team members or with other departments within the facility. The ability to work independently and work well under many competing demands is required for success in this position.
Position Responsibilities
- Champion of the ofi’s Food Safety and Quality Culture Program.
- Maintain applicable position related certifications/accreditations for regulatory agencies and onsite facility activities.
- Supervise and provide a strong leadership presence at the production floor level, with the Quality Team and those assignees working with the Quality and Food Safety Department
- Responsible for the initial and ongoing training of Quality Technicians regarding job responsibilities, the implementation of, monitoring and verification of the facility’s food safety program and documentation. Conduct daily reviews of CCP, metal detection, and sampling activity, ensuring such activities and the associated reporting were correctly completed.
- Immediately address and problem solve any non-conformance such as, process deviations, non-conformance findings in internal or external audit findings, customer complaints, and environmental deviations using root cause analysis (RCA CAPA). Documentation of RCA CAPA action plans and results will be reported in a timely manner.
- Responsible for the facility’s daily, weekly, and monthly audits and inspections, and the quality department’s operational reviews.
- Responsible for ensuring proper product labeling, COAs, product releases, and overall records review.
- Responsible for review, verification, and distribution of all product specifications records.
- Validate and ensure compliance with established food safety and quality objectives through daily monitoring programs, team supervision, and on-going verification of external laboratories.
- Conduct training programs for plant team members with emphasis on Food Safety, Food Defense, GMPs, Quality Culture, and other SOPs for the facility.
- Assist in monitoring and maintaining an acceptable level of inventory of supplies needed to carry out the routine activities of the Edenton QFS Department and Team.
- Work closely with the Customer Service, Traffic, and Production Planning team to prevent aging products.
- Assist in hosting and successfully completing internal and external audits.
- Maintain a positive and responsive relationship while effectively interacting with ofi team members along with any necessary regulatory personnel, food safety auditors, and customers while conducting live and mock trackability/recall activities.
- Place non-compliant products on hold and assist in the dispositioning of items that have been placed on hold. Take an active role in the maintaining of a Holds Log documenting, tracking, and managing all items placed on hold at the facility.
- Oversee the 3rd Party laboratory portals and the documentation, tracking and trending of laboratory results,
- Collaborate effectively with the facility’s other departments as it relates to food safety, quality, operational efficiencies, manning, and overall processes.
- Will share responsibility with the QFS Manager of developing a weekly team schedule covering any staffing issues as related to team PTO, and other manning challenges. The QFS Supervisor would be responsible for filling the role of Quality Technicians should a gap develop in the schedule.
- Assist QFS Manager with data collection and entry into customer and internal portals/data reporting structures
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (or equivalent level of experience) is required
- Two years of Quality Assurance experience is required
- Two years of supervisor experience is preferred
- Ability to understand food manufacturing plant operations.
- Understanding of Good Laboratory Practices and Good Manufacturing Practices.
- Strong organizational, problem solving, and leadership skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills are required.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret data is required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook) is required.
- Ability to lead, inspire, and develop a team of quality technicians in both technical capability and effective communication is required.
- Must possess the ability to work with all levels of employees in various functions within the organization.
- The role is performed on site at a facility that regularly processes peanuts. Employees in this position will routinely work in areas where tpeanuts and related allergens are present and may be exposed by contact or in the air.
