Under the direction of the Quality Manager the Quality Engineer is accountable for providing expertise in the planning and execution of technical process projects performing metallographic testing and dispositioning material to ensure product meets customer requirements.Summary of ResponsibilitiesProvides technical expertise to resolve departmental process issues ensuring product quality and cost efficiency.Conducts research to identify alternative solutions that meet quality and cost requirements ensuring customer satisfaction through adherence to product specifications.Investigates field projects to develop cost-effective solutions for technical process problems. Develops analyzes prepares and executes technical process projects.Assists in establishing departmental quality objectives directing CAR PMCAR Continuous Improvement preventive actions and PCEPCR systems.Ensures quality assurance through inspection and disposition of products before shipment.Performs metallographic testing and analysis of steel products.Fosters effective communication with Operations and Maintenance regarding process applications related to safety quality and cost.Performs other duties as assigned.Minimum QualificationsBachelor of Science in Metallurgy Material Science EngineeringProficient computer skillsExcellent communication organizational and problem-solving skillsCapability to work in a hot dusty industrial environment.Preferred Qualifications3 or more years experience in steel processing steelmaking or industrial environmentRelocation assistance may be considered for highly qualified candidates from outside the local area.Cleveland-Cliffs is a leading North America-based steel producer with focus on value-added sheet products particularly for the automotive industry.
