Position Summary:
The Quality Engineer provides technical quality support to manufacturing and inspection operations and supports the company"s AS9100D Quality Management System. The position is responsible for investigating and resolving product and process quality issues, supporting corrective and preventive actions, improving inspection methods, developing automated measurement programs, and driving continuous improvement. The Quality Engineer works closely with Manufacturing, Engineering, Supply Chain, Testing, and Inspection to ensure product conformity and compliance with customer regulatory and industry requirements. This is a hands-on position that requires the ability to work directly with manufacturing and inspection personnel, evaluate product and process issues, perform dimensional analysis, and implement practical quality improvements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
* Support compliance with the AS9100D Quality Management System and applicable customer, regulatory, and industry requirements.
* Support internal, customer, and supplier quality investigations, including Nonconformance Reports (NCRs), customer complaints, returns, and RMAs.
* Lead or support corrective actions using structured root cause analysis, risk assessment, containment, corrective action implementation, and effectiveness verification.
* Evaluate nonconforming material and assist with appropriate containment, investigation, and disposition.
* Conduct and complete AS9102 First Article Inspections (FAIs), including preparation and maintenance of required documentation.
* Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, GD&T, customer requirements, and inspection criteria to establish product acceptance requirements.
* Create, validate, document, and maintain KEYENCE and other automated dimensional inspection programs.
* Develop and improve automated inspection methods to increase measurement capability, repeatability, efficiency, and throughput.
* Evaluate and optimize inspection methods, tooling, fixtures, gages, and measurement processes to reduce inspection time, scrap, and rework.
* Support Incoming, In-Process, and Final Inspection activities as required.
* Support calibration activities and ensure inspection equipment is properly controlled and maintained.
* Develop and recommend revisions to Quality procedures, Quality Forms, Work Instructions, inspection methods, and other controlled documentation.
* Provide technical quality guidance, training, and support to Quality Inspectors and manufacturing personnel.
* Analyze quality data, trends, and performance metrics to identify recurring problems, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
* Participate in process improvement, problem-solving, and continuous improvement initiatives.
* Work with Engineering and Manufacturing to improve product manufacturability, inspection capability, and process control.
* Support internal and external audits and assist in responding to audit findings and corrective actions.
* Maintain accurate and timely quality records and documentation.
* Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational needs.
$90,000 - $105,000
Requirements/Qualifications:
* Bachelor"s degree in Quality Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or another relevant engineering discipline.
* Minimum of five (5) years of manufacturing or production experience, including quality engineering experience in an AS9100D and/or ISO 9001:2015 environment.
* Experience with AS9102 First Article Inspection requirements and documentation.
* Experience developing, validating, and maintaining automated dimensional inspection programs.
* Experience with KEYENCE or similar programmable measurement and inspection systems.
* Experience with CMM, vision, optical, or other programmable dimensional measurement systems.
* Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and dimensional inspection practices.
* Experience with nonconformance, corrective action, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement processes.
* Ability to work effectively with Manufacturing, Engineering, Supply Chain, Inspection, and other cross-functional teams.
* Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple assignments, and meet established deadlines.
Skills:
* Strong ability to interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, tolerances, and GD&T.Working knowledge of ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards.
* Knowledge of dimensional inspection and precision measurement techniques.
* Knowledge of automated and programmable inspection systems.
* Knowledge of AS9100D and AS9102 requirements.
* Knowledge of root cause analysis and corrective action methodologies.
* Understanding of risk assessment and risk-based thinking.
* Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
* Ability to analyze quality data and identify trends and recurring issues.
* Basic to intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
