Description

Job Summary

Responsible for inspecting raw materials, in-process components, and finished products to ensure they meet company quality standards and customer specifications.

General Responsibilities

  • Perform all duties safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company policies, applicable local, provincial/state, and federal regulations, and the Collective Agreement.
  • Support team objectives by assisting with related tasks and responsibilities as required.
  • Maintain awareness of and comply with Environmental Management System (ISO 14001) and Quality Management System (IATF 16949) requirements, understanding how individual responsibilities affect environmental performance and product quality.
  • Demonstrate leadership through sound decision-making, fairness, consistency, and positive motivation to promote employee engagement and performance.
  • Ensure personnel performing work that affects product quality are competent through ongoing training, education, skills development, and relevant experience.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Manager or Supervisor to support changing operational requirements.

Specific Responsibilities

Paint Line Color Lab

  • Inspect painted parts from the paint line and record defects in the quality system.
  • Obtain the daily paint schedule and compare color specifications using BYK color measurement equipment.
  • Remove one part from each production program for color evaluation, adhesion testing, and film build measurements for primer, basecoat, and clearcoat.
  • Perform visual color evaluations under daylight, Horizon, and Cool White Fluorescent (CWF) lighting conditions.
  • Inspect fascia assemblies for proper assembly and apply approval stamp when requirements are met.
  • Monitor, document, and report paint defects, scrap levels, and quality audit results.
  • Determine the disposition of painted products by issuing rework orders or placing product on hold for further evaluation.

In-Process Inspection

  • Inspect containers and assemblies for proper assembly, including missing or incorrectly installed clips and paint quality.
  • Verify packaging meets company and customer requirements.
  • Monitor inspection points throughout production to confirm rejected products are nonconforming; notify the Assembly Supervisor when discrepancies are identified.
  • Conduct routine production patrols to ensure work instructions and quality procedures are being followed.
  • Audit injection molding machines and approve first-off parts before they proceed to the next operation.

Hard Gate Inspection

  • Perform 100% inspection of finished products to ensure compliance with customer specifications.
  • Record inspection results on tally sheets and enter data into the computer system.
  • Perform Safe Launch inspections during new product introductions as required.
  • Follow all Safe Launch procedures and work instructions to ensure product quality during launch activities.

EXPERIENCE: 1-2 years experience in Quality.

Requirements

  • Associates degree or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Ability to read, write and speak English effectively along with basic mathematical skills.
  • Knowledge of molding, paint or assembly processes preferred.
  • Ability to distinguish colors based on the Munsell color aptitude test and check adequate visual activity.
  • Understanding of customer-specific inspection standards such as GM4348M Specification and Ford 3947a2e.
  • A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft and Quality Systems.
  • Able to work efficiently as a part of a team as well as independently.
