Description

Quality Assurance Specialist - Document Control

Purpose:

The QA (Quality Assurance) Specialist - Document Control serves a critical role in helping deliver products/services that meet quality standards through testing, analysis, and identifying areas for improvement while working with cross-functional teams to support the quality management system and implementation of quality control processes.

This position drives the accuracy, accessibility, and security of critical departmental documents through a systematic approach of organizing and updating records while also leading the coordination of various product, process, and service audits. Additionally, the QA Specialist facilitates the calibration and maintenance of inspection, measuring, and test equipment to ensure ongoing accuracy and reliability.

This full-time, onsite position may require occasional flexibility in working hours as well as hours beyond a standard workweek to accommodate business needs.

Job Description:

  • Generate Test and Inspection Plans (TIP) -

  • includes analysis of compartments , adjacent spaces, etc. by applying requirements from multiple skill-trades tech manuals and government specifications,

  • scheduling all checkpoints for all required tests/inspections (interfacing with shops/trades, subcontractors, customers, etc.)

  • and effectively communicates discrepancies to production team while coordinating resolutions.

  • Maintain, monitor, and provide oversight to the Correction Action Report program - review CARs to ensure specifications are met, create and file reports, coordinate non-conformance/ corrective/ preventive actions and any deviations from standardized processes

  • Maintains the calibration program of equipment and calibration certifications in Hilti system, maintain facility calibration accreditations for entire organization

  • Schedule and conduct reoccurring trainings and audit refreshers on records created at Steel America

  • Provide ongoing support, research, and recommendations for continuous improvements to our Quality Management System

  • Provide various elements of administrative and logistical support for the department.

Other responsibilities will include:

  • Perform document control of quality records for weld joints for various projects by maintaining records in an organized way allowing quick retrieval as needed
  • Review all records before submittal to the customer to include record completed correctly, typographical errors, write overs, and other penmanship issues.
  • Create, track, update, and maintain various records reports and inform interested parties in status of records
  • Submit all records to the customer via multiple platforms as required.

  • Support external audits and perform internal in-process and QMS audits as needed

Qualifications:

  • Must have Bachelor's degree (or equivalent work experience) + 3 years' quality assurance or relative work experience
  • Knowledge of NAVSEA Standard Items, Calibration and Quality Management Systems requirements
  • Ability to obtain and maintain access to appropriate Government databases and systems
  • Ability to read and understand complex specifications, drawings, and technical documents
  • Must have strong command of business tools required, to specifically include (not limited to) Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Must have experience with data management, reporting tools, and database (relative to the functional area) to compile and generate reports, statistics, timelines, tables, graphs, correspondence and presentations
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills with internal and external stakeholders at all levels, commitment to process excellence, with strong organizational, detail-orientated, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Must be able to work independently and within a team, managing multiple priorities effectively.
  • Must maintain current industry awareness and ability to adapt quickly to new/emerging technologies, evolving business needs, industry trends, and best practices.
  • Must have strong attention to detail and an ability to deliver quality work under tight deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of NDT, Weld, QP-1 programs
  • Experience with Costpoint, Navy Maintenance Database, EDFS, and Hilti programs
  • Knowledge of calibration requirements (METRL, Z540, 17025)

Travel Requirements:

  • Minimal Travel; 10% or less.

Physical Requirements:

  • Remaining in a stationary position, often standing, or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Able to sit and work on a computer for long periods of time.
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
  • Communicating with others to exchange information.
  • Light work that includes moving objects up to 20 pounds.

Pay Range: $28.15 - $38.08

Determination of base salary considers various factors, including but not limited to scope of responsibility, candidate's relative and specific experience, education level, key skills, as well as other business considerations. The company also provides a variety of benefits to support employees' best health and wellness. Additionally, the company offers a 401k retirement program with match, paid holidays, and competitive paid time off (PTO)

Colonna’s Shipyard, Inc. is located in the historic Berkley section of Norfolk, Virginia and is the oldest continuous family owned and operated private shipyard in the United States. Founded in 1875 by Charles J. Colonna, a 26 year old ship carpenter with limited resources, the early business was limited to pier-side repairs. Within 2 years, Charles had added his first marine railway powered by two horses that had a lift capacity of about 40 tons, and he was off and running.
