    Description

    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Quality Assurance Coordinator supports quality system activities to ensure products meet established specifications and comply with FDA regulations and third-party certification standards. This position works on quality, food safety, compliance, and continuous improvement projects while helping maintain and improve internal quality systems.

    The role works closely with Quality, Production, R&D, Supply Chain, and other departments to address quality issues, support new product launches, complete audits, and improve processes.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Supply Chain & Quality Support – 40%

    • Support daily quality activities related to supply chain and product delivery.
    • Assist with product release, testing, reviews, troubleshooting, and required verifications.
    • Complete or coordinate validations and calibrations as needed.
    • Review quality information and ensure requirements are met.

    Compliance & Performance – 30%

    • Support food safety and third-party certification requirements.
    • Participate in audits and follow up on corrective actions.
    • Monitor quality performance and KPIs.
    • Identify and communicate non-conformances and issues affecting performance.
    • Assign and track actions needed to contain, correct, and prevent problems.
    • Support root cause analysis and CAPA investigations.
    • Ensure preventive actions are documented and implemented.
    • Identify opportunities for process improvement and operational efficiency.
    • Assist with quality reviews for new products and specification changes.

    Escalated Issue Management – 20%

    • Identify and escalate quality and food safety issues.
    • Work with cross-functional teams to investigate non-conformances.
    • Support investigations involving equipment, internal defects, and customer complaints.
    • Conduct or assist with root cause investigations.
    • Complete CAPA documentation and effectiveness checks.

    Optimization & Continuous Improvement – 10%

    • Support continuous improvement and operational excellence activities.
    • Participate in internal audits.
    • Help develop and train cross-functional team members.
    • Support quality improvement initiatives across the facility.

    ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Work with site leadership and other departments on goals, decision-making, training, and development.
    • Support commercialization activities and new processes as needed.
    • Coordinate completion of Client, record reviews, verifications, and calibrations.
    • Assist with audits and quality system updates.
    • Provide backup support within the Quality Department.
    • Help implement quality strategies throughout the facility.

    PEOPLE & TEAM RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Support the development and performance of the quality laboratory team.
    • Build effective working relationships with Production, R&D, Supply Chain, and other departments.
    • Help promote a culture focused on quality and continuous improvement.
    • Maintain and support training programs related to food safety and quality.
    • Communicate and escalate food safety and quality issues in a timely manner.
    • Provide laboratory support when the team is short staffed.

    QUALITY SYSTEMS

    • Support the effective use of product safety, product quality, and prerequisite programs.
    • Ensure quality systems work effectively with change control and commercialization processes.
    • Investigate problems and identify solutions that prevent repeat issues.
    • Support internal audit programs and follow up to ensure corrective actions are completed.
    • Work with R&D, Production, and Commercial teams on new products, processes, equipment, and customer launches.
    • Help identify risks and recommend appropriate controls or corrective actions.
    • Support operational excellence programs.
    • Assist with preparation for customer visits and external audits.
    • Become a power user of ERP and LIMS systems.

    KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

    • Experience working in an FDA-regulated environment, preferably food, nutrition, dietary supplement, or a related industry.
    • Understanding of food safety, regulatory, and cost risks.
    • Knowledge of sanitation principles.
    • Strong organizational and project management skills.
    • Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.
    • Experience with CAPA and customer complaint investigations.
    • Ability to understand, organize, and communicate technical information.
    • Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills.
    • Ability to work effectively with multiple departments and teams.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Bachelor's degree in a science-related field or relevant equivalent experience.
    • Team leadership experience.
    • At least 1 year of experience in food, dietary supplement, manufacturing, or a related industry.
    • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
    • Ability to stand, walk, sit, reach, and perform other physical activities required in a manufacturing environment.
