Purchasing Agent | Mechanical Construction | HVAC & Piping

Greater St. Louis Area

A well-established mechanical contractor is seeking a Purchasing Agent to support procurement across commercial and industrial construction projects.

This role is critical to keeping projects on schedule and on budget—working closely with project managers, field teams, and vendors to source materials, manage pricing, and ensure timely delivery.

Ideal for someone who understands mechanical systems, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and knows how to navigate vendor relationships and job cost expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Procure materials for HVAC, piping, and plumbing projects across multiple active jobs
  • Review project drawings, takeoffs, and specifications to identify material needs
  • Solicit pricing, negotiate with vendors, and issue purchase orders
  • Track orders, deliveries, and lead times to ensure materials arrive on schedule
  • Coordinate closely with Project Managers and field teams to align purchasing with project timelines
  • Maintain vendor relationships and identify new sourcing opportunities
  • Monitor material costs and support efforts to stay within budget
  • Resolve order discrepancies, backorders, and vendor issues

What You Bring:

  • Experience in purchasing, procurement, or material coordination within construction (mechanical preferred)
  • Knowledge of HVAC, piping, or plumbing materials and equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications
  • Strong negotiation and vendor management skills
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities
  • Comfortable working in a deadline-driven environment
  • Proficiency in Excel and ERP systems (construction software experience is a plus)
