    Arlington County Public Library seeks a detail-oriented and collaborative professional to serve as the Public Service Operations Specialist. As a key member of the Public Services team, this position provides vital administrative and operational support to leadership while ensuring that staffing processes, internal systems, meetings, and workflow coordination run smoothly and effectively. Through strong organization and proactive problem-solving, this position helps create efficient operations that enhance service delivery for both staff and the community.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in Public/Business Administration, Human Resources, Communications, Library Science, or a related field; and

    • Some experience providing administrative, Human Resources and operational support to leadership, with the ability to streamline processes, improve organizational efficiency, and enhance service delivery for staff and the community.

    Substitution: Additional qualifying experience can be substituted for the education requirement. A Master''s degree or higher may be substituted for some of the experience requirement.

    Desirables: Preference will be given to applicants with experience in one or more of the following:

    • Hands-on experience supporting recruitment, onboarding, scheduling shifts, or timecard tracking;

    • A track record of creating easy-to-follow guides, using team coordination tools, or basic reports to help a team stay organized; and/or

    • Experience collaborating across different departments, teams, or external vendors to complete projects or resolve building/facilities needs.

    Additional Information

    Work Hours and location:

    • Full-time, 40 hours per week. Some evening or weekend scheduling may be required based on operational needs.

    • Arlington Public Library. The specific work location will be determined based on the library's needs.

    Specific duties include:

    • Managing operations of substitute workforce across Public Services, including timecard reconciliation, payroll deadlines, performance evaluations, onboarding, policy compliance, and manager support;
    • Serving as hiring liaison for Public Services by supporting hiring managers, coordinating interview logistics, maintaining applicant documentation and templates, and guiding candidates through County hiring procedures;
    • Coordinating Public Services leadership meetings, agendas, action tracking, and division-wide operational workflows;
    • Maintaining centralized guides, procedures, and documentation to drive process improvements;
    • Liaising with facilities staff, vendors, and branch leadership to support small-capital projects, space updates, and equipment upgrades from planning to completion while minimizing service disruptions;
    • Monitoring facilities and technology issues, tracking vendor/department communication;
    • Collecting, organizing, and analyzing staffing and operational data to create summaries, dashboards, and reports that inform leadership decision-making; and
    • Other job-related duties as assigned.

    • Basic proficiency with standard office technology (such as Microsoft 365, including Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams, and SharePoint/OneDrive) and a willingness and ability to learn new digital tools or software.
