QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

High School diploma or equivalent required.

Valid PERC Certification required

Current CPR and CPI Certification required or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe.

Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in security/public safety preferably within a hospital or healthcare environment.

Demonstrated ability to manage difficult, combative, or emotionally distressed individuals using de-escalation techniques.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with patients, families, staff, and visitors.

Ability to remain calm, professional, and decisive in high-pressure and emergency situations.

Ability to prepare clear, accurate, and detailed incident reports.

RESPONSIBILITIES

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Patrols hospital buildings, grounds, and surrounding areas to deter and detect theft, vandalism, fire hazards, and other safety or security risks.

Maintains a consistent presence in high-traffic areas including the Emergency Department, providing assistance to patients and visitors and supporting clinical staff as needed.

Responds promptly to calls for service throughout the hospital, including incidents involving combative, agitated, intoxicated, or disruptive individuals, utilizing appropriate de-escalation techniques and, when necessary, physical intervention in accordance with hospital policy.

Assists clinical staff with the safe handling and management of behavioral health and high-risk patients, ensuring safety for all parties involved.

Enforces hospital policies and procedures while maintaining professionalism and respect in all interactions.

Performs support duties including escorting staff and visitors, securing restricted areas, documenting incidents through detailed reports, handling lost and found items, and assisting with patient transports such as prisoner escorts.

Participates in maintaining overall hospital safety operations and performs additional duties as assigned.
