    Duties and Responsibilities

    • *Serves as a Public Safety and Security Technology Specialist for University of Hawaii at Manoa (UHM) Department of Public Safety (DPS) by managing DPS security system and equipment including but not limited to specialized security systems (enterprise CCTV networks, IP cameras, digital/network video recorders, and radio communication hardware), Windows and Mac, workstations, tablets, and mobile devices.
    • *Installs, configures, tests, and maintains security camera systems on the Manoa Campus and other off-site affiliated locations. This work involves lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling equipment up to 50 pounds and may be performed under adverse conditions (e.g. confined spaces and inclement weather) and at elevated locations.
    • *Installs, configures, maintains, patches, and troubleshoots to ensure that all departmental systems are running securely and data backups are completed as scheduled.
    • *Works closely with UHM Information Technology Services (ITS) and Office of System Integration (OSI) to schedule, coordinate, and supervise the installation of network lines and other baseline IT systems within the DPS physical spaces.
    • *Develops and designs test procedures to ensure functionality and security of systems. Evaluate, document, and recommend system adjustment or enhancement based on test results.
    • Participates in the procurement and implementation of third-party software and hardware solutions by researching, evaluating and advising on appropriate hardware and software.
    • *Provides instructions, technical training, and documentation to the public safety staff on the use of operational systems and field equipment.
    • *Provides advanced technical assistance and troubleshooting when problems occur on operational equipment.
    • *Works closely with external third-party vendors that provide specialized support services to maintain public safety equipment and resolve system discrepancies.
    • *Works with ITS, and vendor to support and troubleshoot security systems and related devices that require monitoring throughout the UHM campus and other areas of responsibility.
    • *Maintains the highest level of integrity and confidentiality in dealing with sensitive public safety data, system logs, and system feeds.
    • *Follows and implements directives and guidance related to best practices from University of Hawaii System Information Technology Services.
    • *Ensures the consistent adoption, implementation, and enforcement of recommendations issued through University of Hawaii System Information Technology Service.
    • *Keeps abreast of recommendations issued through University of Hawaii System Information Technology Service, and takes timely action as needed.
    • *Continuously monitor and lead initiatives to enhance system reliability, security, and operational efficiency.
    • *Attends off-site meetings, professional training programs, conferences, and external events to support organizational goals and stay aligned with operational requirements.
    • *Must be available during non-standard working hours, including nights, weekends and holidays.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in arts, social science, arts and humanities, science, education, business or related field and 3 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for Multi-User System Administration or security systems and technical troubleshooting support, of which 2 years of the experience must have been comparable scope and complexity to the next lower pay band in the University of Hawaii System broadband system; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
    • Considerable working knowledge of security systems and technical troubleshooting support as demonstrated by the broad knowledge and understanding of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving information technology concepts, principles and methodologies.
    • Considerable working knowledge and understanding of the broad technology, systems, hardware and software associated with security systems and technical troubleshooting support.
    • Demonstrated ability to recognize a wide range of intricate problems, use reasoning and logic to determine accurate causes, and apply principles and practices to determine, evaluate, integrate, and implement practical and thorough solutions in an effective and timely manner.
    • Proven ability to comprehend, interpret and implement administrative directives and guidance to ensure IT operations align with organizational standards and industry best practices.
    • Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
    • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
    • If applicable, for supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.
    • Ability to operate hydraulic lifts, climb ladders, and lift/carry tools and equipment needed to perform security system installation and maintenance.
    • Ability to lift, carry, push and/or pull approximately up to 50 pounds at an elevated height, independently and/or with assistance.
    • Ability to travel independently to various geographical locations in a timely manner. Requirement may be fulfilled by a valid Hawaii Drivers license (class 3), comparable drivers license, or other means of transportation, which meets position needs.
    • Ability to work beyond normal hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
    • Working knowledge of monitoring and managing various types of security systems and devices such as CCTV, surveillance security cameras/DVR systems, fire alarms, card key access.

    Desirable Qualifications

    • Direct professional experience working inside a public safety, law enforcement, emergency management, or government agency environment.
    • Knowledge and experience in the utilization of the Genetec platform and/or Integrated Security Systems.
    • Working knowledge of firewall configurations and implementation.
