Duties
Help
FV-F DUTIES:
Performs basic but progressively more difficult assignments. Receives academic and on-the-job instruction in the fundamentals of the appropriate discipline. Acquires and applies basic technical knowledge and limited experience to accomplish assignments. Receives instruction in engineering, mechanical, electrical, or electronics fundamentals, Federal Aviation Regulations, and shop practices.
Assists other employees during early developmental stages. As employee progresses in training and gains experience, he/she independently completes assignments of limited difficulty. Contributes to the organization as a team member for projects that may have direct and/or indirect impact on air traffic control operations. Work is completed using various general and specialized trade skills, including but not limited to: electrical, carpentry, metal & composite roofing, concrete, plumbing, welding, dry wall, chain-link & iron fencing, painting, masonry, Gasoline & Diesel mechanic, HVAC, heavy equipment maintenance, operations of heavy machinery and commercial vehicles. Expected to help senior technicians, develop cost estimates for various projects, gather technical data, evaluate/formulate safety procedures, and determine manpower requirements for assigned projects.
FV-G DUTIES:
Performs a variety of assignments associated with analyzing, installing, repairing, fabricating, or trouble-shooting electronic, electrical, and/or mechanical systems and components. Provides support of the systems engineering function to provide electrical power of quality, reliability, and availability that fully supports the operations requirements of the National Airspace System (NAS). Looked to for guidance on, and resolution of, complex problems associated with the continued operation of commissioned facilities and resolution of problems related to the introduction of new systems into the NAS.
Follows machine tool electrical principles and interprets blueprints, schematics, flow charts, and mechanical drawings. Works with engineers in the design, development, modification, operation and evaluation of existing or proposed equipment or systems.
Provides technical direction and serves as a project engineering technician on matters relating to in-service improvements; analysis, design, and implementation of system-wide hardware/firmware modifications; service life extension; failure analysis/support in response to NAS related problems beyond the assigned repair capability of the field; NAS configuration management; quality assurance; development and issuance of associated national technical directives and maintenance guidance; development and evaluation of operational readiness and/or supportability of new NAS systems for deployment; and technical support to new system acquisition efforts.
May perform other duties as assigned.

TO QUALIFY AT THE FV-F (FG/GS-9 AND BELOW) LEVEL: You must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of Specialized Experience equivalent to the FG/GS-4 level. Specialized Experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.
Specialized Experience may include but is not limited to: experience analyzing, modifying, repairing, and testing complex types of mechanical components and equipment; applying knowledge of the fundamentals of engineering technician work, i.e., maintaining and using a variety of test equipment; and/or interpreting diagrams.
OR
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelors degree (a) with major study in an appropriate field of engineering, construction, or industrial technology; or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as engineering, engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics gained from an accredited college or university.
OR
Combination of education and experience may be qualifying for this position.
TO QUALIFY AT THE FV-G (FG/GS-10/11) LEVEL: You must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of Specialized Experience equivalent to the FV-F (FG/GS-9 and below) level. Specialized Experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.
Specialized Experience may include but is not limited to: experience installing, maintaining, operating, and testing duties on complex projects or systems; troubleshooting and repairing equipment/machinery; determining feasibility and method of modifying test equipment to meet special test requirements; and preparing reports to present conclusions and recommendations.
