DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Performs inspections of public infrastructures for various civil construction projects with emphasis on traffic signals and intersection construction projects to ensure conformance to project specifications and contract documents. Responsibilities include:
WORKING CONDITIONS
Requires the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing to deal tactfully with clients, contractors, and the public. This position routinely requires lifting of moderately heavy items, such as Manhole covers or reams, a roll of construction drawings or record boxes (up to 40 pounds) and/or very long periods of walking on rough surfaces on a routine basis. There are routine exposures to moderate heat, cold moisture/wetness, and unpleasant air conditions.
This is a Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier II Level.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a high school diploma or a GED certificate.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Four (4) years of skilled experience related to construction are required.
Substitution: A Bachelors degree in Construction Management or a related field may substitute for up to four years of the experience requirement.
Vocational training and education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for up to four years of the experience requirement.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Requires a valid Texas Drivers License and compliance with the City of Houstons policy on driving (A.P. 2-2).
PREFERENCES
Preference will be given to candidates that have been certified to be a Public Infrastructure Inspector (CPII) from the American Public Works Association or possess certificates demonstrating a proficiency in the following:
Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.
