Job Specifications

Join the City of Tallahassees Communications department and help tell the stories that connect our community to the services, programs, and initiatives that make a difference every day. In this dynamic role, youll develop engaging communications, build strong relationships across City departments, and help keep residents informed through strategic marketing, media relations, and public outreach.

What Youll Do:

  • Develop and implement communications and marketing plans that support City departments, programs, services, and initiatives.
  • Create, edit, and publish content for print, web, digital, and social media platforms.
  • Serve as a communications liaison to City departments by providing strategic communications support, media relations guidance, and public information assistance.
  • Prepare news releases, coordinate media outreach, and assist with communications for City-sponsored events and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Department of Communications staff and serve on the Citys Emergency Management Team to support public information efforts during emergencies.

Minimum Training & Experience

  • Bachelors degree in journalism, communications, public relations, English, social media. public administration, computer science or a related field; AND
  • Two (2) years of professional experience in public relations, public information, journalism, or social media;

OR

  • High School Diploma or GED; AND
  • Six (6) years of professional experience in public relations, public information, journalism, or social media

Necessary Special Requirements

Possesion of a valid Class E State of Florida drivers license (or equivalent) at the time of hire.

Salary Range

$21.6689 to $58.7999/hourly. Hiring rate generally will not exceed $39.8783/hour.
