Public Health Program Director 1

Location: Nashville, TN 37243
Pay Rate: $42.25–$42.86/hr, paid weekly 
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM 
Hours: 37.5 hours/week
Work Arrangement: Hybrid
Duration: 1 year, potential for extension 


Overview

The Public Health Program Director 1 will provide leadership and oversight for the expansion of the CHANT Welcome Home project within the Tennessee Department of Health’s Division of Family Health and Wellness. This position will also support the acquisition and implementation of call center and case management systems designed to improve maternal and infant health services.

Reporting to the Deputy Director for Child Health, the Program Director will oversee grant-funded contracts, support community partners, monitor program performance, and coordinate with internal technical teams and software vendors.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight for care coordination and the Welcome Home Kit project across designated rural counties.

  • Manage grant-funded contracts, including scopes of work, budgets, expenditures, deliverables, and compliance with State and federal requirements.

  • Serve as the primary liaison for funded grantees and provide technical assistance, guidance, and operational support.

  • Monitor program performance by reviewing process and outcome data, quarterly reports, and evaluation activities.

  • Collaborate with epidemiologists and program staff to develop and implement program evaluation frameworks.

  • Partner with Clinical Application Coordinators during the procurement and development of new call center and case management software platforms.

  • Develop long-term sustainability strategies and identify potential funding opportunities to continue program services beyond the grant period.

  • Conduct site visits and facilitate meetings with community partners and other stakeholders.

  • Represent the program during regional and statewide meetings and initiatives.

  • Coordinate with internal Tennessee Department of Health programs and external partners to align maternal, fetal, and infant health priorities.

  • Complete required in-office onboarding and attend monthly meetings in Davidson County.

  • Travel periodically throughout assigned rural regions and other areas of Tennessee as needed.


Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of full-time, progressively responsible professional health program experience.

  • Experience with program or grant management, including contract oversight, budgeting, expenditures, and financial reporting.

  • Experience leading or supporting multi-partner initiatives, community collaborations, or similar programs.

  • Strong understanding of public health data and its use in program planning, performance monitoring, and evaluation.

  • Strong organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, community organizations, technical teams, and individuals with lived experience.

  • Ability and willingness to travel throughout Tennessee as required.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of maternal, fetal, and infant health programs.

  • Knowledge of rural health systems and healthcare access challenges.

  • Experience providing training, technical assistance, or program implementation support.


Residency Requirement

  • Candidates must currently reside in Tennessee or be fully relocated to Tennessee before their start date.


Education

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health or a closely related field.
