    Title: Public Health Office Assistant
    Duration : 10 months W2 
    Location : 
    Athens, TN , Onsite, EST ; Tennessee residents only.

    Position Summary:
    The Client is seeking a Primary Care Public Health Office Assistant to support clerical and administrative functions within local health department primary care clinics. The role will support patient registration, appointment scheduling, check-in/check-out, patient communications, referral coordination, and other clinic operations. The ideal candidate will be customer-focused, self-motivated, team-oriented, and willing to travel throughout the region as needed.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Schedule and manage patient appointments.
    • Inform patients of visit requirements and provide appointment reminders/follow-up.
    • Collect and update patient demographic information for registration.
    • Review documentation to determine eligibility for federal and state programs.
    • Enter and retrieve information using health department management information systems.
    • Work with multiple computer software systems to input and retrieve information.
    • Process and balance the cash drawer while maintaining fiscal accuracy.
    • Explain client rights and responsibilities related to program participation.
    • Obtain prior authorization before releasing medical information, as required.
    • Assist with insurance prior authorizations by gathering and submitting required documentation.
    • Prepare appropriate forms for requested services to support efficient clinic flow.
    • Scan and index patient records into the electronic medical record (EMR).
    • Maintain a positive, constructive, and cooperative work environment.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • High School Diploma or equivalent.
    • At least 2 years of full-time customer service and/or clerical/office experience.
    • Current driver's license required.
    • Must successfully complete a Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) background check.
    • College coursework may substitute for required experience, up to a maximum of two years.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Medical front-office experience preferred.
    • Knowledge of medical terminology for accurate scheduling.
    • Familiarity with insurance coding and healthcare administrative processes preferred.
