General Description
The Orange County Health Department has an opening for a Public Health Nurse II.
An employee of this class is primarily responsible for providing intermediate public health nursing care in, medical clinics and community service settings. An employee in this class will serve as the Child Health Program Coordinator. Responsibilities include assuring deliverables of Child Health state agreement addendum are met, coordinating child health record audits and customer satisfaction surveys, working with supervisor and Director of Nursing on strategies to meet Medicaid Managed Care benchmarks and quality measures, following up on missed appointments, collaborating with communicable disease nurses on immunization events and childhood lead testing and follow-up, and serving as a resource to the medical team regarding child health questions and concerns.
Work is performed under the general supervision of the Public Health Nurse Supervisor, with leeway to exercise independent judgment within the framework of applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures in the performance of duties, both in terms of planning and accomplishing work and in making decisions public health needs and requests. Supervision is not a responsibility of this class. Does related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from an accredited School of Professional Nursing AND one (1) year of professional nursing experience.
All public health nurses are required to complete the Credentialed Public Health Nursing course within twelve months of hire.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of a valid, current unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a Driver License valid in the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated, and agreement to respond to public health emergencies, including but not limited to staffing emergency shelters and responding to communicable disease outbreaks.
All offers of employment are conditional upon successful clearance of a background check pre-employment drug testing, and documented evidence of required vaccinations, disease immunity, and TB screening, . Employment cannot commence until the employee has been cleared.
In accordance with Section 28 of the Orange County Code of Ordinances, and/or relevant State and Federal statutes, candidates for employment may be required to undergo fingerprinting and a criminal history background check based on the job responsibilities of the position. A fingerprinting check is conducted by the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI)and a criminal history background check is conducted by an authorized Federal or State regulatory agency to determine eligibility for appointment. Employment is contingent upon successful clearance through these checks, which are mandated for certain roles depending on the nature of the job and applicable laws.
Further, all offers of employment are contingent upon the satisfactory verification of your eligibility for employment, successful completion of the required pre-employment testing and/or screening, including drug testing when required and the submission and approval of all new hire documentation completion of your new hire paperwork.
May be required to possess additional certification(s) as deemed necessary by the Public Health Nursing Director or Unit Supervisor.
