Summary Objective

The purpose of this position is to supervise public education programs and activities for a department and develops educational curriculum.

This class works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.

Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

  • Supervises and evaluate staff, address concerns, direct work, counsel, discipline, and complete performance appraisals.
  • Coordinates schedules, assign tasks, lead meetings, track time, train seasonal staff, and assist with volunteer recruitment and onboarding.
  • Assists with budget preparation, monitor and control expenditures.
  • Develops and update education program standards; recommend improvements to enhance effectiveness.
  • Evaluates programs, collect data, track participation, and support grant implementation.
  • Designs and distributes educational marketing materials; manage department communications.
  • Represents department in meetings; provide updates on activities and events.
  • Collaborates with internal teams, stakeholders, and community partners to promote programs.
  • Schedules and conduct educational programs, support staff during events.
  • Participates in duty officer rotation. • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Education, Public Administration, Science Education, Conservation Biology, Marketing, or related discipline.

  • Three (3) years of teaching, training, public relations, project or program management, or marketing; two years supervising staff or volunteers, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

OTHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENT

  • Must provide ones own source of transportation.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

  • Performs light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or considerable skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving close tolerances or limits of accuracy.
