The Loudoun County Department of Family Services is seeking an experienced and motivated Public Benefits Supervisor to join our Public Benefits Unit. This leadership role offers a unique opportunity to guide and develop a team of eligibility professionals while ensuring residents receive timely, accurate, and equitable access to critical services, including the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Medicaid, and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF).
As a Public Benefits Supervisor, you will provide direct supervision to a team of approximately 6-8 eligibility staff responsible for processing applications and managing ongoing public assistance cases. You will play a key role in ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, maintaining high standards of program integrity, and promoting operational excellence through coaching, quality assurance, and performance management.
In addition to overseeing eligibility operations, you may serve as the lead for a specialized program area, including Customer and Triage Services, Long-Term Services and Supports (LTSS), Training and Quality Control, Energy Assistance, or Refugee Cash Assistance.
What Youll Do
Lead, coach, and develop a team of eligibility professionals to achieve performance goals and deliver exceptional customer service.
Monitor casework and service delivery to ensure compliance with state timeliness, accuracy, and program integrity standards.
Analyze reports, workload data, and case activity to identify trends, address challenges, and improve operational outcomes.
Provide guidance and technical expertise on complex eligibility determinations, policy interpretation, and case resolution.
Deliver training, mentoring, and professional development opportunities to enhance staff knowledge and performance.
Collaborate with community partners, agency leadership, and state stakeholders to support program objectives and service delivery.
Respond to escalated customer concerns and support staff in resolving complex service issues.
Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, teamwork, and customer-focused service.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a Human Services field related and three (3) years of professional experience in a social services public benefits department including one (1) year supervisory experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Our work hours are typically Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on a hybrid telework schedule - Can you work this schedule? (Please note, for the first 90 days all new hires are expected to report in-person during their training period).

At times, the Department of Family Services staff must respond to community and or emergency needs caused by inclement weather, natural or human-made disasters, etc. Therefore, in these very rare instances, all DFS staff must be available to work beyond the normal workday to include nights, weekends, and holidays, as required to perform functions of the position and/or situation. In addition, you may be required to work at an alternative worksite(s) within the County to perform duties that support the operational needs of the department.
