Position Description

DEFINITION: To provide instruction to students through lecture, demonstration, laboratory exercises, clinical instruction, handouts, and responding to questions and testing.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED: Receives general supervision from the Lead Nurse Aide Instructor/Program Coordinator, Program Director and Dean.

Duties & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTION STATEMENTS: -- Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Essential Functions: Provide classroom, clinical, and laboratory instruction to students

Prepare lesson plans and schedule classroom activities

Develop and prepare supplemental materials to enhance textbook lessons using the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Regulation (NC DPHSR) approved Nurse Aide I training curriculum and North Carolina Board of Nursing (NCBON) approved Nurse Aide II training modules

Develop and prepare tests to evaluate students; provide individual tutoring to students outside of the classroom as needed

Provide classroom demonstrations on various equipment and machinery; develop laboratory assignments to provide hands on experience as appropriate

Demonstrate competence regarding the handling of hazardous substances such as blood borne pathogens; annually undergo training and train students in such procedures

Supervise students in the lab and clinical setting

Participate in curriculum development, evaluation and change, attend faculty meetings as required

Maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance; maintain other records and databases according to program needs or accreditation requirements

Oversee the implementation of policies and procedures related to required teaching area

Participate in all functions related to implementation of the programs systematic plan for evaluation

Other Important Functions: Assist the Nurse Aide Program Coordinator with Nurse Aide Program site equipment maintenance, organization of documentation and implementation of the Nurse Aide program

Participate in a variety of student related administrative activities including reviewing admission requirements, progress and qualifications for graduation

Stay abreast of new developments and changes in various academic fields; participate in staff development programs, workshops, seminars and other continuing education programs as appropriate

Assess the relevancy and impact of various lessons; revise and improve lesson format; evaluate various textbooks and select books to be used for future classes

Assist in the recruitment of students

Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned

Work in a high school setting may be required, assisting high school students in an early college program

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of: Adult instruction and learning processes

Classroom, laboratory and clinical instructional techniques, skills and procedures

Principles and procedures of academic and instructional program development and administration in the area of assignment

Current trends, research and development in the area of assignment

Ability to: Create a professional learning environment

Prepare and present information and material in a classroom, lab or clinical instructional situation

Problem solve with and demonstrate critical thinking skills and techniques

Demonstrate Sensitivity and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students

To perform and instruct skills according to NC DPHSR the NCBON guidelines

Supervise and assess students in a hospital, long term care facility or hospice

Communicate effectively with students, other CFCC Faculty/Staff, on-site staff, residents and families of residents

Work effectively with high school level students in a high school setting.

Demonstrate the basic ADL skills and personal care skills pertaining to resident care in a long term care, hospital, and/or hospice facility

Pay meticulous attention to detail

Maintain a professional demeanor and appearance in all situations to those you are working with and for and act a role model for the students in the program

Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for: Making observations Reading and writing Communicating with others Operating assigned equipment Handling varied tasks simultaneously.

Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include the following: Standing or sitting for extended periods of time Operating assigned equipment Preparing and presenting instructional material Bending, stooping, climbing, or lifting up to 50 pounds

Maintain mental capacity, which allows the capability of: Making sound decisions Responding to questions Demonstrating intellectual capabilities.

Minimum Requirements:

Experience and Training Requirements:

Minimum Degree: High School Diploma with a Vocational Diploma in Nursing

Nurse Aide Level I: Per the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Health Service Regulation Health Care Personnel Education and Credentialing Section, the minimum competency and qualifications for faculty for a Nurse Aide Level I program shall include: Has a current unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina The applicant has at least two (2) years (4000 hours) of experience as a Registered Nurse in the United States. The applicant meets at least one of the following: Completion of a course in teaching adults Experience in teaching adults Experience in supervising nurse aides

Nurse Aide Level II: Per the N.C. Board of Nursing the minimum competency and qualifications for faculty for a Nurse Aide Level II program shall include: Has a current unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina Have had at least two years of direct patient care experiences as a R.N. Have experience teaching adult learners. Have experience supervising Level I and Level II Nurse Aides.

Preferred Education/Experience: Long Term Health Care Facility experience

Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification
