Description

Our client, a reputable healthcare provider dedicated to comprehensive mental health services, is hiring a Psychiatrist – Evaluation & Referral Service (Admitting) – Part-Time. This vital role involves performing thorough psychiatric evaluations for walk-in and emergency clients, ensuring timely and accurate assessments. The psychiatrist will work closely with psychiatric nurse practitioners and social workers, contributing to a collaborative, patient-centered approach aimed at delivering high-quality mental health care. The position offers a flexible part-time schedule, focusing on day shifts to accommodate professional and personal needs while making a meaningful impact in a busy hospital environment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations of emergency and walk-in patients.
  • Assess safety, determine inpatient or outpatient treatment needs, and assign appropriate psychiatric or substance abuse services.
  • Write initial orders, including medication prescriptions, and develop individualized treatment plans.
  • Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary team members, including nurse practitioners and social workers, to ensure continuity of care.
  • Follow up on cases managed within the Evaluation and Referral Service, contributing to case review and documentation.
  • Participate in team meetings and case reviews to promote best practices and optimize patient outcomes.

Requirements

  • Minimum board certification or eligibility in Psychiatry (BC/BE).
  • Current, active New York Medical License.
  • Prior experience in emergency psychiatric evaluation or related settings is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Excellent clinical assessment skills and the ability to handle safety assessments confidently.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Additional certifications in substance abuse or crisis intervention are advantageous.
  • Flexibility to work daytime shifts, with no evening, weekend, or after-hours responsibilities required.
