The Bob Sierra Family YMCA and YMCA Camp Sierra serve as key community hubs for youth and family engagement in Tampa's Carrollwood and Northdale neighborhoods. Located on two nearby but distinct properties, the facilities feature a large athletic field, outdoor courts, a climbing and belay tower, playgrounds, picnic areas, and additional outdoor activity spaces. Nestled in a pocket of Florida's natural landscape, the Youth and Family Center offers a sense of adventure and retreat-just under a mile from its sister location.

The Property Technician - Grounds and Landscaping plays a vital role in maintaining safe, engaging, and well-kept outdoor spaces, ensuring YMCA members, program participants, volunteers, and staff can experience meaningful connection and growth in a vibrant outdoor environment.

Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Proptery Technician 2 - Grounds and Landscaping (PTGL) will be responsible for the overall maintenance, cleanliness, safety, and beautification of all outdoor spaces across both Bob Sierra facilities (Northdale and Ragg Road). The PTGL manages the facilities' grounds and athletic fields, property vegetation, playground/play elements, irrigation, equipment maintenance, and identifies and addresses any potential safety hazards. Key duties include mowing, planting, preparing play areas and athletic fields (e.g., lining fields, maintaining playgrounds and sports areas), executing fertilization and weed control programs, and supporting property beautification (e.g., trash removal, debris clearing, hurricane recovery, etc). The PTGL will provide leadership to direct reports and volunteers, and maintain collaborative relationships with peers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Facility Administration

  • Work with the Property Director to execute on property maintenance priorities, supporting projects outside their assigned centers when necessary.

  • Maintain property and grounds in an attractive manner at all times to include:

  • Mowing lawns, trimming hedges and trees, watering plants, weeding flower beds.

  • Maintenance and upkeep of irrigation systems to include, pump maintenance, replacement of sprinkler heads, and pipe repair.

  • Operating and conducting routine preventive maintenance and repairs on all grounds equipment.

  • Preparing outdoor areas for various weather conditions and inclement weather.

  • Maintaining sport fields, soil conditioning, mulching and applying pesticides and herbicides.

  • Scheduling specialty services such as fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides for delivery and application.

  • Performing exterior painting and general upkeep of facilities.

  • Ordering supplies and equipment e.g. equipment parts, blades, sprinkler parts, flowers, bushes.

  • Use of various equipment including tractors, mowers, chainsaws and trimmers.

  • Ensures timely response to general maintenance requests and emergency orders (within service level agreement timelines).

  • Ensures that all work projects stay within or below budget; pre-approval required.

  • Responsible for the care and maintenance of all company owned tools, equipment and facilities in their centers.

  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Safety and Risk Management

  • Adheres to all Federal, State, and local safety regulations.
  • Adheres to all YMCA policies and procedures regarding the safety, health and welfare of members, program participants, guests, and staff members.
  • Ensures implementation of and follows all training requirements in addition to ensuring proper reporting of all incidents/accidents according to risk management procedures.
  • Responsible for the security of all company owned tools, equipment, vehicles, building, inventory, and security of the buildings.\
  • Maintains proper records, including certifications, meetings and trainings.
  • Maintains an emphasis on safety in all areas of responsibility as they relate to members and staff.

Team Leadership

  • May supervise part time seasonal staff.
  • Coordinates and oversees volunteers and projects for applicable volunteer events.
  • Maintains a collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues.
  • Provides recommendations for grounds improvement and beautification.
  • Assists in other areas as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Actively attends and participates in all meetings, conferences, training events, and workshops, as assigned.

Assist in all areas, project teams, and job tasks as assigned.

Attend all conferences, trainings, meetings, and presentations as assigned.

Education/ Experience Required:

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Two to four year college degree preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of sports field management and maintenance experience, preferred.
  • Background in horticulture and landscaping is a plus.
  • Experience with the use of pesticides and fertilizer applications.
  • License in pesticide application is a plus.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • Must have and maintain, in good standing, a valid driver's license and meet driving record requirements of our automobile insurance company.

Certifications/Trainings Required:

  • Must obtain within 30 days of employment and maintain current certifications in CPR, First Aid, AED.
  • Maintain other required certifications as assigned by supervisor or required by regulatory agencies and/or the Tampa Metro YMCA association.

  • Ability to work in a variety of environments, specifically those subject to extreme humidity/dampness, heat and cold.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate or high.
  • This position may require availability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Must be able to perform all duties and functions of those that are supervised
