    Overview:

    Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary is a multidenominational, evangelical graduate school committed to equipping Christian leaders to think theologically, engage globally, and live biblically.     Position Summary:

    Under the supervision of the Director of Operations, this position supports the mission of the Seminary by maintaining an aesthetically appealing campus to all who visit our premises. Work week is Monday through Friday, 2pm to 10pm, 40 hours per week.

    Key Responsibilities:

    1. General Maintenance: Focus on the day-to-day maintenance and upkeep of interior and exterior spaces on the Charlotte campus. Maintains outdoor spaces, including flower beds, by weeding, mulching, planting, trimming, watering, and fertilizing. Cleans walkways, seating areas, and signage; pressure washes surfaces; removes litter; checks for hazards; performs touch-up painting; and maintains outdoor lighting.

    2. Landscaping: Plans and designs garden layouts, selects and installs plants, and maintains landscaped areas through watering, fertilizing, pruning, and mulching. Handles plant health care, removes overgrowth, refreshes soil and mulch, and updates designs to improve appearance and functionality.

    4. Compliance and Prevention Support: Ensures facility compliance with building codes, safety regulations, and health standards through routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and general repairs. Tasks include servicing critical systems, addressing minor electrical, plumbing, and structural issues, and keeping accurate maintenance records for audits. Responsible for invoice submissions.

    5. Events Coordination: Manages setup and breakdown of events and classes, including arranging furniture, staging, AV equipment, decorations, and hospitality items. Coordinates with staff, ensures proper storage and cleanup, and reports damages. Requires attention to detail, timeliness, and teamwork. (Special events may require more assistance in certain roles such as assistance with hospitality and working at Campus wide events such as graduation.)

    6. Other Tasks as Assigned: This role requires flexibility and the ability to step into various facility positions to ensure uninterrupted operations. Tasks may include answering phones, monitoring building access, or cleaning restrooms.

    Key Competencies:

    • Technical Skills: Must possess the ability to operate powered equipment and hand tools, set up/take down furniture and equipment, and must be physically capable of lifting 25 pounds.
    • General Maintenance: Must have the appropriate knowledge of machines and tools including their design, use, and maintenance; Must have the ability to coordinate general and preventative maintenance. (e.g., painting, HVAC pm, electrical, plumbing, grounds).
    • Landscaping: Experience and creativity with plants, flowers, and garden beds.
    • Customer Service: Strong customer service skills with the ability to demonstrate empathy with students, coworkers, and constituents.
    • Communication: Strong oral and writing communication skills; Proficient computer skills in word processing, spreadsheet development and internet access.
    • Knowledge and Discernment: Must be capable to make decisions independently and problem-solve. Strong time and project management skills while balancing multiple priorities; Creativity in use of limited resources (e.g., purchasing choices, engagement of volunteers).
    • Clear understanding of the mission of the Seminary and willingness to abide by the Community Life Statement of GCTS.

    Education & Experience:

    • High school or GED required; Associate's degree preferred.
    • 5+ years experience in general maintenance, drywall, painting, gardening and/or landscaping preferred.
