Position Overview
The Property Accountant will be responsible for the accounting and financial reporting activities for a portfolio of commercial real estate assets. This role partners closely with property management and leadership teams to ensure accurate financial reporting, budgeting support, and financial analysis.
Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for assigned properties
- Perform month-end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations
- Analyze operating expenses, revenues, and overall property performance
- Reconcile bank accounts and balance sheet accounts
- Assist with annual budgets and forecasting processes
- Review tenant billings, CAM reconciliations, and lease-related accounting transactions
- Support year-end audit and tax preparation activities
- Maintain fixed asset schedules and depreciation records
- Ensure compliance with accounting policies and internal controls
- Collaborate with property managers and operational teams on financial matters
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
- 3+ years of accounting experience, ideally within real estate, property accounting, commercial real estate, or property management
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting
- Experience with month-end close and account reconciliations
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Experience with Yardi, MRI, or other property management software is a plus
- Will consider candidates directly from public accounting
