Project Safety Coordinator

HEALTH AND SAFETYAssists and oversees the implementation of the project's health and safety management system in consultation with the project manager / superintendent and the Corporate Safety SuperintendentEstablishes a site-specific responsibility matrix which identifies the responsibilities of each project member at the projectProvides health and safety and orientation training to newly hired employees. He must then establish and implement a comprehensive site-specific responsibility matrix for the workplace in such a way as to maintain the lowest possible incidence of injuries and incidents.

GENERAL PURPOSE OF THIS JOB (Summary)The safety coordinator is to assist in the development of a comprehensive health and safety management system in such a way as to involve and receive support from the Corporate Safety Superintendent. He must then establish and implement a comprehensive site-specific responsibility matrix for the workplace in such a way as to maintain the lowest possible incidence of injuries and incidents. COMPENSATION: $80,000 - $100,000 base salary plus bonusESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.HEALTH AND SAFETYAssists and oversees the implementation of the project's health and safety management system in consultation with the project manager / superintendent and the Corporate Safety SuperintendentEstablishes a site-specific responsibility matrix which identifies the responsibilities of each project member at the projectProvides health and safety and orientation training to newly hired employees.Coordinates First Aid trainingAssists the front-line supervisors with investigations and preparation of reports of all incidents /injuries or health and safety related conditions Conducts regular workplace inspections of all site facilities, both surface and underground and organizes regular safety meetings / safety huddles for site crewsEnsures the thorough and timely completion of incident investigations and related reportsAttends crew safety meetings on a regular basis and makes safety presentations as requiredCLIENT RELATIONSWorks closely with client representatives to ensure safety activities and training conducted by Subsurface Energy Resources operations personnel are compatible with client policies, procedures and activitiesAddresses client concerns in a timely manner working diligently to solve their problems/issuesSAFETY CONTROLSEnsures the accurate maintenance of records and statistics related to health, safety and first aid matters and reports on such to the project manager/ superintendentEnsures safety notices and signs are posted as requiredEnsures that fire extinguishers and fire suppression systems are inspected and maintainedConducts regular personal follow-ups with any injured employeesAdministers light duty and modified / alternate work programsRefers potential major problem areas to the project managerConducts surveys of all safety equipment and makes recommendations for the improvement of same where appropriateEnsures that correct procedures are prepared and review with site crewsAdvises and assists the project management team with the preparation of job procedures and monitors compliance based on the monthly compliance reportREGULATOR COMPLIANCE/RELATIONSProvides advice to management on all government safety, health regulations and standards, aspects of the Mining Safety and Health Administration regarding mine and construction proceduresLiaise with government inspectors and officials as requiredAccompany government inspectors and officials on safety toursTRAININGEstablishes health, safety, and first aid training and induction programsEnsures the accurate maintenance of records and statistics related to health, safety and first aid matters and reports on such to the project managerAssists in the development of in-house training programs for employeesKeeps abreast of the Mining Safety and Health Administration and legislative changesCertificate(s), License(s), Registration(s)MSHA Underground Certification requiredCal/OSHA Experience PreferredEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE5 to 10 years of related mining experience
